Thanks to the smart system interface, Grotefeld drilling units become “universal geniuses”. For almost 60 years, Grotefeld GmbH (Espelkamp) has been producing high-quality units for the wood, plastics and metalworking industries as well as the craft. Directly driven drilling units are of course also part of the portfolio. However, the three series B030, B050 and B100 have an extraordinary unique selling point: The sophisticated system interface allows all-round flexibility in use – time-consuming retooling is a thing of the past.
The B050 series, for example, with 1.1 kW drive power, forms the middle performance class of drilling units with pneumatic feed. These Grotefeld products are designed for processing many types of material – from wood to plastics or light metals such as aluminum to steel. They are used for drilling or milling – the combination with different tool holders, drilling gears or heads allows an unbelievable variety of uses.
But how does Grotefeld manage to guarantee this variety of applications? The “secret” and unique selling point is thinking and designing in systems. Each drilling unit has an identical system interface, which allows maximum flexibility. Regardless of the machining task at hand: changing tools is “child’s play” – the previously used, often time-consuming retooling is no longer necessary.
And so the drilling units become a universal genius. The common interface allows the use of different drill chucks – with and without clamping screws, keyed chucks and collet chucks as well as the coupling for multi-spindle drilling gears or angle drilling heads. Every change can be made instantly by the customer – open-end wrenches and hexagon socket wrenches are sufficient for countering.
A special highlight of the system components that can be combined with the drilling units is the optionally available “Hydro-Check” – a hydraulic speed controller for precise feed movements during machining operations. This works with hydraulic damping so that the feed is defined and precisely controlled, while the return always takes place at high speed. You do not need your own source of strength.
Although the last-mentioned case is a special one and plays a role above all in the processing of aluminum profiles in window construction, it underlines how helpful and clever the acquisition and use of drilling units with system interfaces is.
