The German Design Award 2017 took place in Frankfurt on the 10th February. The wood-based materials manufacturer EGGER received a “Special Mention” twice in the category “Materials and Surfaces” for the new surface ST76 Matex Rough Matt, as well as the Doppia Black-Gold furniture edge.
The German Design Award 2017 in Frankfurt received 4,000 submissions. EGGER stood out with two products in the category “Materials and Surfaces”: the surface innovation ST76 Matex Rough Matt and the new Doppia Black-Gold accent edge were each awarded a “Special Mention”. “Every award won by our products is a recognition of our technical investments as well as of our focus on trend and innovation,” says Klaus Monhoff, Head of Design and Decor Management for the EGGER Group, celebrating at the Frankfurt event. With its product innovations and novelties, EGGER creates trends that convince not only customers, but also important design bodies.
The German Design Award grants “Special Mentions” to works whose design includes very good aspects or solutions – an award that honours the commitment of companies and designers.
“Special mention” for look and feel
The combination of matt and stone is currently popular for surfaces. EGGER responds to this demand with the award-winning ST76 Matex Rough Matt. The surface innovation is modelled on a mottled and softly brushed natural stone surface, and can be used on a wide range of stone reproductions.
Edges are no longer just frames for the wood-based materials board. They have developed into a design element, and EGGER has made a special space for them in its new Decorative Collection 2017-2019 for retail, handcraft, and architecture. With the Doppia Black-Gold furniture edge F8982, EGGER reacts to the trend towards accents and contrasts in furniture design. Awarded the “Special Mention”, this edge is particularly well suited for upscale interior design, on furniture fronts, table tops, kitchen and bathroom furniture. Visual perfection is achieved thanks to its narrow joint. The edging consists of a high-quality, stable, and thermoplastic material (Polymethylmethacrylic – PMMA) and is particularly well suited for creating eye-catching impressions. Its bicoloured appearance – which looks partly transparent and partly matt – creates a high-quality colour transition to the surface of the PerfectSense Matt lacquered board in black.
The stage for unique design trends
The German Design Award is the international premium prize of the German Design Council. Its objective is to discover, present and honour unique design trends. High-quality submissions for product and communication design that are pioneers in the international design landscape were honoured in Frankfurt on the 10th February 2017.
