UPM made a grand move as it has recently invested nearly 10 million euros in the modernisation of the Korkeakoski sawmill. A new split saw supplied by USNR will start operating at the sawmill in 2025. This fresh and very important investment is to increase the efficiency and competitiveness of the Korkeakoski sawmill.

Pointing out the real benefits of the investment, Korkeakoski Sawmill Director Janne Klaavuniemi says, “The sawmill industry has a long history of over 60 years in Korkeakoski. Great work has been done here for a long time, and this investment is an excellent continuation of that. The Korkeakoski sawmill has been a model example of excellent production efficiency, and this investment will further strengthen our position.”

In this particular process of mornisation of the sawmill the split saw in the second stage of sawing will be renewned, along with aautomation and addition of other equipement. The investment enables more efficient use of raw materials, as the same amount of logs convert to more end product. Modern equipment also increases energy efficiency.

UPM Timber produces redwood and whitewood sawn timber for the joinery, packaging, distribution, and construction industries. The company’s sawmills are powered entirely by renewable energy. The company uses certified Finnish raw material and the latest sawmilling techniques to produce high-quality sawn timber that fulfills our customers’ requirements. This time too, it took the call for sustainable growth seriously while executing the modernisation process. Highlighting the company’s main Thomas Westerback, UPM Timber’s Director, Sustainability and Investments said, “We aim to develop our sawmills more efficient and responsible in the long term. This investment is a great milestone and very much in line with our goals, as we aim to be a forerunner in sustainability in the industry.”
