Stora Enso

Stora Enso has announced a new investment of 40 million in technology and restructuring its fluff pulp production site in Skutskar, Sweden. The main motive behind the initiative is to enhance operational and carbon footprint performance for fluff pulp production.

Store Enso, a leading producer of fluff pulp in Europe, produces fluff pulp that is used in hygiene products, like, diapers, feminine care, protection products, and more. The new investment made by the company aims to contribute to the climate with an aim to enhance both operational efficiency and the site’s carbon footprint performance.

With the company’s target in 2021 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, Stora Enso resolves to continue achieving the target till 2030 by reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50%. The new technology will ensure a reduced carbon footprint by over 5% for the site’s products through resource and energy efficiencies.

Executive Vice President, Biomaterials division at Stora Enso, Johanna Hagelberg, on the new investment, states,
“Both with our products and in our operations, we aim for maximal performance with minimal impact on the environment. Our Skutskär site is already close to carbon-neutral, and through this investment, we are now taking the next important step towards a climate-positive contribution. Moreover, technology upgrade investments will further sharpen our competitiveness in the growing hygiene products sector.”

This investment by the company is set to enable the bleach lines to be reduced from three to two, improving cost competitiveness and creating opportunities for future development. The implementation of the plan has been decided to begin in Q1 2022.
