Valmet unveiled a brand-new flame profiling application that allows for real time-flame detection and monitoring in the lime kiln environment of pulp mills. The Valmet Furnace Imaging System, IR is updated at the same time with new lenses and a port rodder, enhancing the entire value of the Valmet Boiler Diagnostics Systems.

Real-time information on lime kiln flame temperature and profile

For the Valmet Visible Thermal Imaging System, the new flame profiling software is an add-on programme. The software locates the flame, gauges its relative size, and calculates the distances between the detected flame’s end and user-defined markers. These characteristics improve fuel combustion, boost availability, and lower pollutants. By giving people a greater knowledge of the current situation, they also increase safety.

The programme works in tandem with the Valmet Visible Thermal Imaging System, an advanced tool with high-definition imaging and temperature analysis that is perfect for lime kiln applications. The system provides visual and thermal analysis to optimise fuel combustion and lime quality in lime kilns. It is designed for longevity and reliability.

“We are constantly developing our camera-based diagnostics offering for both pulp and energy customers. The new flame profile application can be used to control the hot end temperatures of a lime kiln to optimize the residual carbonite in lime. In the end it helps to decrease the energy consumption of the kiln,” says Matti Selkälä, Business Manager, Pulp and Energy Analyzers, Automation Systems business line, Valmet.

New mechanics improve availability and performance

For improved picture quality and more precise metrics, the Valmet Furnace Imaging System, IR has also been modified with new optics and port rodder technology. Online visual analysis is provided by an infrared camera system to view through fly ash and flue gas. At full capacity, it permits thorough observation and analysis, lowering risks and boosting output. The redesigned port rodder improves availability and operating safety by boosting the effectiveness of camera cleaning.
