Valmet supplies to Stora Enso’s Oulu mill in Finland. The order quantity includes delivering a bleached chemi-thermo mechanical pulp, evaporation and non-condensable gas (NCG) technology as well as an extensive automation solutions package. This shipment is a component of Stora Enso’s around EUR 1 billion investment to turn the last idle paper machine at their Oulu facility into a high-volume consumer board production line.
The purchase is a part of the fourth-quarter 2022 orders that Valmet has received. Although the order’s value won’t be disclosed, a delivery of this size and complexity is approximately worth between EUR 75 and EUR 100 million. The rebuilt mill is expected to begin operating in early 2025. Deliveries are made in stages.

Technical details on the delivery
A BCTMP line, an evaporation plant, and an NCG boiler are parts of Valmet’s technology delivery system for treating odorous gas. The BCTMP line produces boards with high bulk and great pulp quality at low operating costs with high process flexibility and dependability. The evaporation plant is designed with high energy efficiency, low power and steam consumption, and the recovery of BCTMP filtrate in mind. It uses mechanically dependable Tube Evaporation technology with a Valmet Mechanical Vapor Recompression (MVR) Evaporator. The NCG boiler is made to emit extremely little NOx. Valmet Industrial Internet solutions, which include connection and process support with analytics tools, are used to support the delivery.
