Metsa Tissue upgrades their Mantta machine so as to expand production capacity and diminish carbon footprint.

Metsa Tissue, a division of Metsa Group, recently updated their tissue paper machine at the Mantta mill and it has transitioned from the trial run stage to continuous production. Producing new fibre-based tissue paper products specifically for the Finnish market will be done using the upgraded paper machine. The improvement will raise the tissue paper machine’s production capacity by 15% and enhance product quality, energy efficiency, and production effectiveness.

Will use about 15% less energy per tonne of paper produced

Tissue papers, which are common in consumers’ daily lives, is a product that is crucial to the supply security of the society. Karttunen, VP Production of the Mantta mill, thinks that as long as development work on the renewal continues, they will get the benefits they are striving for and much more. According to the company’s sustainability goals, Metsa Tissue will use about 15% less energy per tonne of paper produced, which will result in decreased carbon dioxide emissions. Their workplace safety will also improve, he continued, in addition to their enhanced manufacturing capacity and improved paper quality. They will be able to boost production while also making a significant advancement toward manufacturing without the use of fossil fuels thanks to the regeneration of the tissue machine.

The renewal is an investment in raising production and enhancing the qualitative attributes of locally produced tissue paper in Mantta brands Lambi, Serla, and Katrin. The softness and strength of the paper have considerably improved since the initial products were tested in June. Tissue paper may now be made more energy-efficiently than in the past thanks to modern technology. Valmet served as the renewal’s primary machine provider.

“We are proud to have the opportunity to continue our cooperation with Metsa Tissue in this important renewal project for Mantta PM10. This is the third Advantage ViscoNip rebuild project that Valmet and Metsa Tissue have done together, and the cooperation has been very good in all projects. Valmet’s ViscoNip technology has major benefits related to improving product quality, reducing energy consumption and increase production capacity and is very well suited for rebuilds,” says Bjorn Magnus, Sales Director Rebuild & Single sales, Valmet.
