Domotex 2023 prioritises sustainability and focuses on creating a new awareness of values. With ‘The Green Collection’ the event will create space for sustainable products. In the upcoming edition Domotex Carpet Design Awards there will be a new sustainability category to evaluate and explore responsible business approaches of the participants. The organisers have announced this new Sustainability category for a rug that is produced with a low carbon footprint or/and that incorporates ethical practices.
The Carpet Design Awards are the international Competition for Outstanding Carpet Design and are presented annually at DOMOTEX, they will be in their 18th year next time. The Carpet Design Awards are an international badge of distinction, given in recognition of quality and design excellence in hand-made carpets and rugs.
Nani Marquina, a jury member of the Carpet Design Awards opined that, “I think it is excellent that this category has been included, because for all of us who are dedicated to product design, we have to keep sustainability very much in mind. It has practically become an obligation, a necessity… At nanimarquina we have been focusing on it for a long time now, but I think that soon the objective will be not to have a special category for sustainability, as it will become something intrinsic to all products. It will be a way of working, especially for companies in the textile sector, as it is a sector where sustainability changes a lot both the way of working and the consequences for the environment.”
Jamie Metrick, the chair of the jury of the Carpet Design Awards recently stated in an interview, that, “In the last few years we’ve all gotten a lot more mindful around sustainability. It’s extremely important we consider the environmental impact of each rug produced and do our best to get better and better in this area. An award that shines a light on this is amazing.”
