International technology company Andritz and Paracel S.A., Paraguay, have signed a contract between them which calls for Andritz to provide all process equipment as well as environmentally friendly and energy-efficient pulp production equipment for Paracel’s 1.8 million tonne per year pulp mill that is planned to be constructed in Concepción, Paraguay.
All equipment will be provided by ANDRITZ on an EPC basis. More than US$1.5 billion will be spent on the ANDRITZ purchase. In 2023, it is anticipated that the contract will be booked.
Because of their cutting-edge technology, stellar delivery track record, local expertise, and wide-ranging delivery scope under an EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction) paradigm, ANDRITZ was chosen.
With forestry assets totaling 185,000 ha of land held by the Company, Paracel plans to produce 1.8 million MT annually in the pulp mill project in Concepción, Paraguay. Since the company’s incorporation on November 12th of last year, more than 17,000 ha of forest have been planted, the mill’s design is complete, it has been granted a building permit, environmental and social impact assessments have been completed, significant groundwork has been done at the mill site, documentation for CO2 sequestration has been completed, and action plans for the conservation of native forests and social programmes have been established.
“The two teams have collaborated relentlessly to reach this goal” – Mr. Nils Grafström. A significant project milestone is the choice of the supplier of the process equipment. Since more than two years ago, the work has been done with the competing suppliers while upholding the highest standards for sustainability, health and safety, and productivity over time.
