Sylva wood returns with bigger bang

 Wednesday, June 15, 2016

Image 1_v4 copyFollowing a triumphant first year in 2015, the second edition of Sylva Wood returns with an even bigger bang; receives strong support with more than half of confirmed exhibitors hailing from across the globe.

As the only specialised wood materials show in Asia, Sylva Wood has no machinery or finished products. The show continues to provide the perfect opportunity for global suppliers and buyers of wood materials and wood-based products to trade, network and exchange ideas on how best to expand reach into the China market – one of the biggest players in the timber industry.

Despite China’s slowdown and a gloomy outlook for the world economy this year, there is overwhelming participation from local and international experts and exhibitors seeking to explore innovation, initiate business collaboration, and address business challenges with solid strategy and solutions.

“Our members had a productive time trading and networking with key manufacturers at the inaugural Sylva Wood last year. It was without a doubt that we would be back for the second show,” says John Chan, AHEC regional director for Southeast Asia & Greater China.

With the harvest ban in China, domestic demand for wood is set to increase, with local manufacturers expecting quality materials that cater to their specific requirements. This year, Sylva Wood presents an array of quality wood products such as: North American hardwoods and softwoods, French Beech, Rubberwood, Russian Birch, Chilean Cherry, Eucalyptus from Uruguay as well as tropical plywood from Southeast Asia.
“Sylva Wood has positioned itself as the premier platform in Asia to connect leading suppliers of wood products and potential customers of softwood and hardwood lumber as well as engineered wood products. As this show is the first of its kind in all of Asia, we must continue to exhibit and support Sylva Wood and its organisers,” says An Di Nguyen, president of US Softwood Export Council.

“Sylva Wood is the platform to discover pioneering ideas that can challenge norms and create unconventional possibilities for the industry. We have key drivers at the show who can advise on neoteric business solutions and help maximise business potential in the industry,” says William Pang, managing director of Shanghai Pablo Exhibition Pte Ltd.
“Our inaugural show was lauded for its unique specialised approach, which we have continued to pride ourselves in – quality over quantity,” he added further.

The inaugural Sylva Wood in 2015 was strongly supported and warmly received by experts and key industry players. 82 companies participated, of which 30 were from Mainland China and the rest from countries as far as Chile, Italy, Latvia, New Zealand and the USA.

This year, 60% confirmed exhibitors are international traders from Austria, Canada, Chile, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Russia, Singapore, Sweden, Thailand, USA and Uruguay, and with the remaining 40% from Mainland China. The show is expected to draw 10,000 visitors, a majority of which are professional buyers from the flooring, furniture, cabinetry, doors and windows, and stairs sector. The show will also attract architects who are keen to understand Asia and learn more about the international timber market.

This year, Sylva Wood 2016 also presents a stellar line-up of keynote speakers to discuss the global supply and demand for wood. The symposium also welcomes Giulio Masotti, founder of Wood-Skin®, to introduce a patented new composite material as a manufacturing solution to geometric shapes in wood.
