In a bold move that challenges the conventional notion of home electronics as purely functional and meant to be hidden, IKEA has collaborated with renowned colour expert and designer Tekla Evelina Severin (Teklan) to launch a new, expressive product line. The collection, which includes high-quality sound products, lighting, and charging accessories, is set to hit global markets starting in December 2025 and aims to make technology a visible, enjoyable, and integral part of personal style and home decor.
The Power of Presence: Sound Meets Style
The collaboration is fundamentally built on the idea that home electronics should contribute to a room’s atmosphere through form, colour, and character, not just sound. “Home electronics are often seen as purely functional, something many people want to hide,” says Sara Ottosson, Product Developer at IKEA of Sweden. “We want to change that. We’re treating speakers with the same care as the rest of the home, so they contribute to a room’s atmosphere and personality not only through sound but also through form, colour and character.”
Teklan’s signature aesthetic—a distinctive colour language that balances playfulness with geometric form—is the driving force behind the line’s vibrant appeal. The collection explores how two- and three-dimensional designs can meet to create depth and movement, transforming everyday electronics into expressive pieces that feel natural and inviting in the home environment.
Infusing Emotion and Friendliness into Tech
Teklan views colour as an emotional and powerful tool capable of completely altering how an object is perceived and shaping a room’s atmosphere. “We wanted to bring that softness and friendliness into technology, to help people see home electronics differently and invite more colour into their everyday spaces,” she explains.
The core of the new collection features the SOLSKYDD family of Bluetooth speakers, designed by Ola Wihlborg. While a clean white version is available outside the Teklan collaboration, her colourful and dynamic surface work wraps the fronts of the key pieces, creating optical effects with a sense of movement and vibrancy.
The SOLSKYDD range includes three distinct round Bluetooth speakers: a small portable model in bold orange with an eye-catching pattern; a medium green version featuring brown and beige diagonal stripes that can stand or hang; and a large, orange textured model designed for wall mounting, which can be paired with a screen. Functionality is key: all SOLSKYDD speakers can connect with each other and other compatible IKEA Bluetooth speakers for a multi-speaker mode, and they all support Spotify Tap for instant music playback.
Light, Sound, and Nostalgia
Perhaps the most characterful additions are the KULGLASS lamp speakers, which merge light, sound, and colour. Available in shades of green and red-brown with pink accents, the design features a friendly, inviting silhouette. The lamp’s swirl-shaped shade is charmingly inspired by soft-serve ice cream, deliberately contrasting the technical complexity of high-quality sound.
Teklan drew on deep personal memories for the colour palette. “For the colours, I was chasing a soothing feeling from the past,” she recalls. “The mint green came from a childhood memory, and I even went to my grandparents’ home to match it to the exact shade of an old bar of soap I remembered.”
The collection also offers a spotted interpretation of the classic FADO lamp, designed to spread a soft, comforting glow. This year, the partnership also saw the release of two new colourways for the VAPPEBY speaker and 14 braided charging cables—SITTBRUNN, RUNDHULT, and LILLHULT—inspired by climbing ropes and rendered in bold retro colours, further extending the theme of making functional necessities decorative.
By marrying IKEA’s design expertise with Teklan’s distinctive colour vision, the new line redefines the role of home electronics, positioning them not as discreet black boxes but as bold, expressive components of contemporary interior design. The products will begin rolling out globally in December 2025, promising a colourful overhaul for modern homes.
