At STEICO’s LVL mill in Poland, production data plays a central role in day-to-day operations. Using MillSIGHTS, the company monitors quality-critical parameters, optimizes yield, tracks downtime, and maintains full product traceability. The platform delivers a unified view of production, enabling teams to quickly identify deviations, make informed decisions, and maintain control throughout the manufacturing process. This level of visibility supports consistent product quality, efficient resource utilization, and reliable production performance. For STEICO, production intelligence software is an essential component of modern LVL manufacturing.
STEICO produces wood-based construction materials, including LVL, I-joists, and wood fibre insulation. Its LVL production supports both external markets and internal product applications, where consistent quality and traceability are essential. The LVL plant in Poland has a nominal capacity of 160,000 m³ per year across two production lines. The company was founded in 1986 at the Czarna Woda, Poland with the annual output of 160,000 m3 LVL capacity. Their export markets are: Europe, Africa, Australia, and other international markets.
When STEICO entered the LVL manufacturing sector in 2015, it faced a significant challenge. As an established distributor of white-label LVL products, the company already had a strong customer base and well-defined quality expectations. To meet existing demand, STEICO needed to rapidly transition from external sourcing to in-house production while maintaining the same product performance and quality standards. The shift required immediate results, leaving little room for a gradual ramp-up or extended transition period.
As such, reliable production data to control quality, output, and delivery was an absolute requirement from the start to achieve this goal.
As Piotr Łysiak, Deputy Operational Director, explains:
“We had to replace our existing LVL supply quickly and deliver the same quality from day one.”
In practice, this meant focusing from the beginning on:
Consistent product quality
STEICO needed tight control of production parameters to ensure reliable performance in structural applications.
Process stability
STEICO needed to manage natural variation in wood so that production conditions and output remained consistent.
Resource efficiency
STEICO needed to monitor yield, glue consumption, and energy use as key drivers of both cost and sustainability.
Traceability
STEICO needed full visibility into production to meet customer and certification requirements.
STEICO at a glance:
STEICO is the global market leader in the production and sale of bio-based wood fibre insulation materials and a leading supplier of innovative timber construction products. With the industry’s largest product range of ecological insulation materials and an innovative construction system for timber construction, STEICO occupies a unique position in the market.
The wood used comes from forests that are certified in accordance with the strict rules of the PEFC. All products have the essential building authority approvals. In addition, independent product testing by the Institute for Building Biology Rosenheim (IBR) guarantees the high quality of the products. STEICO also defines standards with regard to environmentally friendly production and uses, for example, CO2-neutral biomass as an energy source.
Trees are nature’s CO2 guardians, absorbing carbon dioxide (CO2) as they “breathe” and converting it into wood while releasing oxygen (O2).
STEICO takes advantage of this natural process by crafting its exceptionally efficient insulation and construction products from renewable wood resources. In the year 2021 alone, their STEICO products collectively locked away an impressive 950,000 tons of CO2.
STEICO products effectively transform buildings into expansive CO2 reservoirs, ensuring long-term environmental benefits.
