Forest Stewardship Council brings their 2025 Annual Report based on the a year of progress in forests, markets, and communities.
“This report is all about how we strengthened our systems and delivered impact in forests, in markets, and in communities.”
2025 highlights:
- 171.4M hectares of certified forests, +7.4% from 2024
- Reached 68,037 Chain of Custody certificates, +6.6% from 2024
- FSC finalized its Climate and Biodiversity Strategic Framework and expanded tools to measure and verify ecosystem services
- The 10th General Assembly brought together over 700 members who voted on 49 motions
“Let’s build on this momentum in 2026 and beyond.” – FSC.
FSC has the most extensive certified supply chain network, enabling connections between markets and sustainable forestry – including over 150 million hectares of forest managed according to FSC standards.
FSC’s high standards and credibility have helped the system grow as solidly as an oak trunk. At the same time, new solutions continue to arise over the years to address incoming challenges, playing a crucial role in biodiversity conservation and climate change mitigation while ensuring healthy and resilient forests for all, forever.
Why forest matters for FSC?
Forests regulate their climate, clean the air they breathe, and filter the water we drink. They also provide habitat for more than two-thirds of terrestrial wildlife and plants. They are one of our most important resources, offering a renewable supply of the materials and goods we need for a more sustainable future.
Forest regeneration is key to sustaining carbon sequestration for future generations.
Whenever possible, mixed-species forests are recommended in regeneration projects. Greater biodiversity reduces the risks associated with uniform forest structures and helps forests adapt to changing environmental conditions. Successful regeneration starts with the right decisions. Koskinen’s forestry experts help forest owners choose the most suitable regeneration solutions for each site and its specific conditions.
By combining regeneration measures with timber harvesting operations, forest owners can enhance forest vitality, growth potential, and long-term climate benefits.
“When we nurture forests, we fight climate change, prevent biodiversity loss, and protect workers and Indigenous communities around the world. Unfortunately, many forest areas are under attack from illegal logging and other harmful practices. More than 12 million hectares of forest are lost each year – that’s the size of about 150 tennis courts every minute.” -FSC.
Forests: A natural solution for climate change
Climate change is a defining challenge of their time. One of the most effective ways to combat climate change is with healthy, resilient forests.
Forests help regulate their climate by absorbing and retaining carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The healthier the forest, the more carbon it can capture and store.
