Metsa Wood’s Kerto LVL L-panels and Kerto LVL T-studs have been chosen for the prefabricated non-load-bearing wall elements for a new German facility. For its new concrete element facility, the German element producer Bruninghoff picked prefabricated wooden wall elements constructed of Kerto LVL. The amount of prefabrication required for the assembly times to be optimised. In keeping with the entire layout of the new facility, the material also exhibits exceptional sustainability and material efficiency. The modern concrete component manufacturing facility in Heiden, Germany, is more than 17,000 square metres wide. The new plant’s planning and construction phase included early consideration of sustainability. For this reason, a hybrid building structure with prefabricated external Kerto LVL non-load bearing wall sections was adopted. The hall’s whole height is covered by high-quality wall components that are both aesthetically pleasing and adhere to stringent sustainability criteria.

Sustainability in focus

“The Bruninghoff Group makes prefabricated wooden elements with a particular focus on products with a very high proportion of wood products – such as laminated veneer lumber. To this end, we carefully select partners that fit our sustainability strategy and who are reliable. In this context, we chose wall elements made of Kerto LVL from Metsa Wood for our new concrete element plant,” explains Andre Leipold, Technical Director of Brüninghoff Holz GmbH & Co.KG.

The laminated veneer lumber from Metsa Wood is ideal for manufacturing elements. It is also very material-efficient because it requires less volume than other wood products and has a great strength-to-weight ratio. “According to calculations using Carbon Storage Calculator, just the Kerto LVL used in the factory building stores carbon a total of 165.8 tonnes of CO2eq. This means that in comparison to other construction materials, wood is very sustainable,” explains Leipold. With a total area of around 5,000 square metres and 239 wall parts, the building. The components are joined to a load-bearing concrete frame that is made of a hybrid construction and were made at the Bruninghoff element plant. The new concrete element factory develops a continually sustainable construction idea in addition to directing production in the same direction. Read more news on Metsa
