Stora Enso strengthens 125-year partnership with Egypt, advancing renewable materials collaboration

 Thursday, April 23, 2026

Long-standing partnerships continue to deliver the greatest value when they evolve with time, and this principle was at the forefront of Stora Enso’s participation in the Egypt–Finland Business Forum this week.

Joined by Alexander Stubb and a strong Finnish delegation, Stora Enso engaged with key Egyptian partners to reinforce a relationship that has spanned more than 125 years. This enduring collaboration highlights Egypt’s importance not only as a historic partner but as a strategic market for future growth.

“Egypt is not a new market for us. What stands out is the strength of our long-standing foundation and the scale of opportunity that lies ahead,” the company noted.

Today, Stora Enso is a global leader in renewable materials, reporting annual sales exceeding EUR 9 billion and employing approximately 19,000 people worldwide. Its solutions already help avoid around 14 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually by replacing fossil-based alternatives.

Egypt’s position as a regional hub, coupled with its expanding population and increasing demand for construction and packaging materials, presents a compelling platform for deeper collaboration. Stora Enso sees strong potential across wood products, renewable packaging, and biomaterials.

The company’s transformation—from a traditional forest industry player to a renewable materials innovator—continues to shape its approach in markets like Egypt. This shift places greater emphasis on sustainable packaging and long-term impact.

Discussions during the forum spanned investment, construction, digitalisation, and industrial cooperation, underscoring the breadth of opportunity for expanded engagement. Moving forward, the focus is expected to shift beyond transactional relationships toward deeper partnerships centered on:

While acknowledging existing market challenges, Stora Enso emphasized that resilient partnerships are built precisely under such conditions—through consistency, trust, and adaptability.

The company expressed appreciation for the productive discussions held during the visit and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with Egyptian partners in the years ahead.

Stora Enso towards a sustainable future

Their purpose and values are underlined by their continuing commitment to promote a more sustainable future, one less dependent on fossil fuels and supporting a bioeconomy where the production and consumption of products are based on wood as a renewable resource. Wood fibre-based products store carbon and can also replace non-renewable materials such as plastic, glass, steel, concrete and fossil fuels. With global warming, growing populations, urbanisation, changing life styles and eco-awareness, trees can be a big part of the solution for customers and their consumers towards a sustainable bioeconomy.
