The Trio cutter, a new solid carbide tool (VHW) developed by LEUCO, is designed for machining panels with magnetic or stainless steel surfaces. Tool design increases service life
The Trio cutter has a special cutting edge geometry and a LEUCO “topcoat” coating to increase precision and edge life when machining extremely abrasive sheet materials. Test reports show just how long the edge life is thanks to the exceptional cutting edge structure:
When machining V2A stainless steel-clad particle board, the tool still had a burr-free cutting edge even after 120 meters of use – an exception with this material. The cutter achieved the best results at a lower speed and higher feed rate. The last 20 meters were cut at 3,000 rpm and a feed rate of 5 m/min – with excellent results.
The Trio cutter achieved the same with magnetic bond board. The successful concept: The cutter design combines a primary cutting edge with a normal shear angle and two closely spaced cutting edges with a higher shear angle.

Feedback from customers also underscores the exceptional performance of the Trio cutter: Users confirm that when used on magnetic bond board a speeds of 6000 rpm and a feed rate of 3-5 m/min, the cutter has not yet reached the end of its service life after more than 2500 running meters – at a removal rate of 3 millimeters per milling pass. In this case, the number of running meters might be even higher, as some of the material was removed twice during processing.
Exclusive cutting edge geometry only from LEUCO
Because of the special arrangement of the three different shear angles in relation to one other, resharpening the cutter is not economical. The special cutting edge geometry is available exclusively from LEUCO and is protected by a utility patent. Optimum cutting strategy
The recommended application parameters typically include speeds of 5000-6000 rpm and a feed rate of 4-8 m/min, depending on the cutter diameter. For joint cuts, machining with feed is recommended. If this is not feasible, an oscillating milling process with an amplitude of 2-6 millimeters, depending on the cutter, is preferred. Alternatively, gradually offsetting the tool by 0.5 to 1 millimeter in the Z direction after each milling operation is advised.
