DIEFFENBACHER provided a complete wood fibre insulation board (WFIB) factory for the Bavarian Ziegler Group’s Grafenwohr site, which is now up and in operation less than a year after it was first started. On August 30, 2022, the rigid WFIB production line went into operation. On April 1, 2021, Ziegler Group made an order with DIEFFENBACHER. Despite a last-minute relocation from Barnau, 50 km west to Grafenwohr, building on the new factory started on September 1, 2021, just five months later.

Climate-friendly “green alternative”

Ziegler Group’s Commercial Managing Director, Andreas Sandner, stated that his organisation was pleased with how promptly and successfully their new DIEFFENBACHER WFIB factory has been operating. A fibre dryer, an EVOjet M 2.0 glueing system, a forming station and forming line with prepress, a CSS Continuous Steam Press System, a raw board handling system, electrics and automation, and the MyDIEFFENBACHER digital service platform were all included in DIEFFENBACHER’s scope of supply for the entire plant.

“We never would have been able to achieve this record-breaking construction and completion time without the full cooperation of our partners, in this case, especially DIEFFENBACHER. The change of location and the procurement crisis during the pandemic made this feat all the more remarkable,” says Sandner. “Our thanks go to the entire DIEFFENBACHER team, which overcame huge challenges to meet our requirements for product quality and energy efficiency.”

Ziegler Group also officially contracted the Eppingen-based company, DIEFFENBACHER, to provide a second fibre dryer for the Grafenwöhr site’s manufacturing of flexible insulation mats in addition to the WFIB facility that was just finished. Building work started in June. The dryer with a 10-tonne-per-hour capacity is expected to start operating in October 2022.

As an environmentally friendly insulation for home construction, wood fibre insulation boards are more popular than ever. Excellent insulation properties of this climate-friendly “green alternative” to less ecologically friendly insulation materials greatly lower a building’s energy requirements and carbon footprint. Wood fibre insulation boards (WFIB) that are both very effective and environmentally friendly. The continuous press can be utilised to simultaneously inject steam onto the upper and bottom surfaces to create boards with a density profile that is exactly symmetrical. Additionally, the high-precision production method reduces mat trimming.
