Swedish design company Mizetto introduces its Cargo modular chairs during NYCxDesign. For more than two decades, Mizetto has provided useful solutions for workplaces and public areas, such as smart accessories, waste-sorting bins, and tables and storage systems. Mizetto has also created a variety of seating options in recent years, including the Cargo modular couch, which will be unveiled during the NYCxDESIGN Festival on May 15–21, 2025.
Malin and Richard Muskala had a clear aim when they established Mizetto: to push limits through approachable, adaptable, and playful design while consistently challenging their own and others’ curiosity. “From a design perspective, we don’t want to limit ourselves to just one niche – or even a few,” commented Malin Muskala. “We constantly strive to challenge ourselves and keep learning new things. That’s why we can’t say no to an idea we believe in”. While many design companies concentrate on just one area, Mizetto takes a bold and fearless approach to taking on new challenges.
Mizetto’s first foray into seating design was the Enfold armchair, created by Sami Kallio. The highly renowned Lumber, which won multiple prizes in 2023, including the Dezeen prizes, Interior Design’s “Best of Year” award, and Neocon’s “Best of Year” award, was introduced at the same time. It is no accident that Mizetto’s first sofa was introduced.
“We’ve always dreamed of creating our sofa,” recalls Richard Muskala. “But with sofas, the journey from idea to reality can be a long one. At the same time, we love tackling a new challenge – it’s a driving force that runs through the entire company. Now, the time felt right for our first sofa.”
Space-saving cargo packets used in logistics, fastened with tension straps, served as the model for Cargo’s name and design. In a similar vein, the modular sofa is made to be shipped quickly and easily. The three modular parts that make up Cargo, according to the manufacturer, allow for a plethora of permutations and easily fit into a variety of settings. The modules, which consist of chipboard and plywood frames, have a whimsical attitude while maintaining accuracy in form. They are based on the geometry of a traditional cube that has been twisted and changed into something unexpected and dynamic.
