Budimex-new zone

Budimex SA has officially inaugurated the Budimex Zone at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Environmental Sciences of the Bialystok University of Technology (BUT) to nurture domestic young talents and help them develop in the construction industry. Opened on November 5th, this modern, collaborative space is the second such initiative in Poland, designed to serve as a hub for learning, professional development, and community building among aspiring engineers.

The creation of the Budimex Zone is more than a simple structural addition; it is a tangible expression of a strategic partnership between the construction leader and the largest technical university in North-Eastern Poland. This alliance, initiated in 2022, is dedicated to aligning academic curricula with the real-world demands of the modern construction sector. The 700-1000-word news piece aims to position the construction sector, through the lens of Budimex’s initiative, as a dynamic, forward-looking industry actively investing in its human capital.

The Budimex Zone at BUT is meticulously designed to offer students a multi-functional environment. With an emphasis on modern, ergonomic interiors, the space transcends the traditional university setting, offering a sanctuary for relaxation and regeneration, yet simultaneously acting as a catalyst for professional inspiration. Students are encouraged to leverage the zone to network, collaborate on projects, and, most importantly, engage with the construction giant’s various initiatives, particularly the renowned Budimex Internship Program. The ultimate goal is to motivate talented young individuals to see a viable and exciting future within Budimex and the broader Polish construction industry.

The grand opening ceremony highlighted the synergistic value of this collaboration. Attending the event were key figures, including Prof. Marta Kosior-Kazberuk, Rector of Bialystok University of Technology, Prof. Jacek Żmojda, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, and Paweł Janicki, Regional Director of Budimex SA.

“At Budimex, we believe that the true value of an investment lies not only in the construction, but in what is created between people – trust, cooperation, and shared values,” stated Paweł Janicki from Budimex. “That is why, with the same passion with which we carry out construction projects, we also invest in the education and development of young talents. Budimex Zones are a place that inspires learning and professional development, showing students how fascinating and full of opportunities the construction industry is.”

This sentiment underscores a broader industry focus on fostering soft skills—such as cooperation and shared values—alongside technical proficiency, recognising that successful construction projects are inherently human-centric ventures.

The partnership formalised in 2022 is multifaceted, spanning joint research endeavours, the co-authorship of scientific publications, and an array of educational and promotional activities. The Budimex Zone becomes the physical nucleus for these efforts, effectively dissolving the traditional boundaries between the classroom and the construction site.

Rector Prof. Marta Kosior-Kazberuk emphasised the university’s dedication to a holistic developmental environment. “Bialystok University of Technology is a place of learning, but also a space for development and building relationships. We want students to feel that the university inspires, supports, and gives energy to act,” she commented. She further highlighted the essential role of industry collaboration: “Cooperation with companies such as Budimex combines the world of science with practice and supports the development of young people in the construction industry. The zone we are opening today was created with the comfort and needs of our students in mind.”

The focus on joint research and development is particularly critical. As the Polish construction sector navigates digital transformation, sustainability challenges, and the need for greater efficiency, insights from academic experts and fresh student perspectives are invaluable. The partnership facilitates the commissioning of university expertise by Budimex to solve technological and implementation challenges encountered during large-scale construction projects.

The establishment of the Budimex Zone in Białystok marks the second such deployment in Poland, following the September 2025 launch of a similar space at the Stanisław Noakowski Technical School of Architecture and Construction in Warsaw. This consistent strategy reveals Budimex’s long-term vision: an active and continuous investment in the entire technical education pipeline, from vocational schools to leading technical universities.

This dedication is evidenced by the scale of Budimex’s educational outreach. The company currently maintains 27 cooperation agreements with universities and 47 strategic partnerships with technical schools across Poland. This extensive network acts as a crucial mechanism for addressing the skilled labour deficit—a recognized bottleneck in the nation’s rapidly expanding construction and infrastructure sectors.

By actively engaging with educational institutions, Budimex not only secures a potential pipeline of highly competent employees but also influences the curriculum to ensure graduates possess the most current professional competencies. The success of the Budimex Internship Program speaks volumes, having welcomed over 3,000 students and pupils since its inception in 2014, with approximately one in three interns ultimately joining the company on a permanent basis.

The construction of modern, industry-relevant spaces like the Budimex Zone is a powerful, non-plagiarized example of how Poland’s industry leaders are taking proactive steps to strengthen the potential of Polish technical education. By investing in the academic environment and integrating real-world practice, Budimex is not just building infrastructure; it is building the foundation for the next generation of Polish civil engineering excellence, ensuring a sustainable and innovative future for the nation’s construction industry. The initiative in Białystok is a clear signal that the future of large-scale construction in Poland will be built on a robust partnership between business and academia.
