The commercial and hospitality design world is buzzing with anticipation for the upcoming Boutique Design New York (BDNY) trade fair, scheduled for November 9th–10th, 2025, at the Javits Center. Amidst a showcase of cutting-edge materials and innovative solutions, Swedish flooring manufacturer Bjelin is set to capture the attention of architects, interior designers, and major hospitality brands with a revolutionary portfolio of high-tech, hardened wood flooring.

Bjelin’s exhibit (Booth 2564) will feature solutions specifically engineered for the high-traffic demands of commercial environments, setting a new benchmark for combining genuine wood aesthetics with unparalleled durability and sustainability. The highlight will be the brand-new Nadura Tiles—a product poised to disrupt the perception of wood-based flooring in settings that require superior wear and impact resistance. The foundation of Bjelin’s competitive advantage lies in its proprietary technologies, developed by its sister company, Välinge Innovation AB, the original inventor of the mechanical click flooring system. These patented innovations create a new category known as “Hardened Wood Floors.”

Woodura® Technology: Real Wood, Exponential Strength

At the core of Bjelin’s success, particularly with the latest Woodura Planks 3.0 and Woodura Herringbone 2.0, is the patented Woodura® technology. This groundbreaking process involves fusing a thin sheet of real, FSC®-certified wood—such as renowned Slavonian oak—with a wood fibre core through a sophisticated powder mix.

• Triple the H=hardness: The high-pressure and high-temperature fusion process results in a surface that is documented to be up to three times harder than conventional solid or engineered wood flooring. This drastically increases resistance to common commercial wear, such as dents from high heels, rolling luggage, and dropped objects.
• Material efficiency: Woodura is an exceptional example of material innovation. By utilising sliced wood veneer instead of traditional sawn planks, the technology allows Bjelin to produce approximately ten times more flooring from the same amount of raw lumber. This sustainable approach maximises resource utilisation, aligning with the industry’s growing mandate for eco-conscious design.
• Modern formats: The reinforced stability of Woodura enables the production of larger, more contemporary dimensions. The Woodura Planks are now available in sizes up to XXL (271mm wide and nearly 2.4 meters long), offering designers grand scale without compromising on the integrity or stability of a real wood surface. The Woodura Herringbone 2.0 also features larger panels, injecting a modern, durable take into the classic parquet pattern, ideal for upscale hotel lobbies and restaurants.

Nadura® Tiles for heavy commercial purpose

BDNY attendees will get their first look at Bjelin’s Slate Collection, featuring the new Nadura Tiles. Powered by the equally advanced Nadura® technology, these wood-based tiles represent a significant leap in performance for high-traffic and heavy commercial applications.

Nadura combines fine wood fibres with binders and design-enhancing compounds to create a solid surface rated as Class 34—the classification for Very Heavy Commercial Use (EN ISO 10874). This designation makes the tiles suitable for demanding areas like retail spaces, offices, and, crucially, vibrant hospitality environments where resilience is non-negotiable.

The visual appeal of the Slate Collection is derived from deep textures and natural color variations, providing the rich, tactile warmth of wood combined with the sleek, cool appearance of natural slate. This dual-performance product offers designers the aesthetic freedom of stone or ceramic with the comfort and acoustic benefits of wood.

Beyond surface strength, Bjelin’s floors address a critical pain point in commercial installations: moisture damage. Their product portfolio features the advanced 5G® and 5G Dry™ click technology—another invention from Välinge Innovation.

The 5G Dry™ solution ensures a watertight joint, preventing liquids from seeping through the seams and damaging the subfloor. This leakproof system, unique among many wood-based offerings, simplifies maintenance and provides enhanced protection in spills-prone areas common in food and beverage, and high-volume guest areas. Moreover, the 5G® fold-down system is globally recognized for facilitating a remarkably fast, durable, and glue-free installation, significantly reducing project downtime and associated costs for commercial fit-outs.
