EUBCE appoints Prof. Andre P.C Faiij as Conference General Chairman

faiijProf. Andre P.C Faiij, appointed as Conference General Chairman following nomination and voting process by the EUBCE ISAC – International Scientific Advisory Committee, will be chairing the EUBCE 2016 where the Conference programme of the highest scientific calibre is currently being prepared by EUBCE’s International Programme Committee, made up of more than 140 leading experts from the global Biomass community, under the guidance of the Technical Programme Chairman, Dr. David Baxter, European Commission, Joint Research Centre.

 

André P.C. Faaij (1969) is appointed as Academic Director Energy Academy Europe and Distinguished Professor Energy System Analysis at Groningen University. In this position, he works with many stakeholders on energy system transitions from regional to international level. The Energy Academy Europe is set-up as a centre of excellence on energy research, education and entrepreneurship and it is as such a cross-cutting strategic priority for the University of Groningen and its partners, including some 400 scientists from natural to social science.

 

Prior to this position he was professor and scientific director of the Copernicus Institute of Utrecht University (130 scientists). His research covers, amongst others, bio-based economy, carbon capture and storage, intermittent energy sources, alternative transport fuels, energy system studies and modelling, impacts and sustainability of energy systems, technological learning and innovation in energy systems, GHG balances & accounting, energy and research policies. He works as an advisor for governments, the EC, IEA, the UN system, GEF, OECD, WEF, WEC, the energy sector and industry, strategic consultancy, NGO’s, etc. He is an advisor to various UN energy activities (including UNIDO, UNEP, FAO). He contributed to various IPCC reports, the World and Global Energy Assessment and IEA’s World Energy Outlook, covering energy systems, bioenergy, waste management and energy supplies. He published over 600 titles in scientific journals, reports, books and proceedings and he qualifies as ‘highly cited researcher’ (top 1% of research field) by criteria of Thomson Reuters ISI Web of Science. Furthermore, he was appointed Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum and in June 2015 he received the Linneborn Prize for outstanding contributions to the development of energy from biomass.
