Ahlstrom expands sustainable PSA labeling solutions at Labelexpo Europe 2025

Ahlstrom, a global leader in fibre-based specialty materials, is showcasing its expanded range of release and label papers at Labelexpo Europe 2025. The company aims to advance sustainability in the pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) industry by offering eco-friendly and circular material solutions.

Innovative Low-Impact Materials for PSA Applications

Ahlstrom’s latest product range focuses on providing high-performance materials with a reduced environmental footprint. These include the company’s innovative low-impact supercalendered release papers, designed to help lower the environmental impact of PSA labels while improving circularity.

The release papers are enhanced with Ahlstrom’s proprietary Acti-V® technology. This highly efficient silicone coating and curing process helps reduce the consumption of energy, catalysts, and silicone, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable production process.

Ahlstrom’s Acti-V® RF liners, made from a blend of cellulose materials, support circularity by incorporating 15% post-consumer recycled (PCR) fibres. These liners are available in both light yellow and white shades, providing customers with sustainable options without compromising on performance.

Acti-V® RF Natural Liners: Stronger and More Sustainable

The Acti-V® RF Natural liners take sustainability a step further. These liners are made from at least 50% unbleached fibres and contain at least 15% PCR fibres. Importantly, these liners are dye-free, giving them a unique natural appearance. The unbleached fibres increase the strength and safety of the liner, even at lighter basis weights.

By focusing on circularity and reducing carbon footprints, these products offer a robust solution for PSA laminate applications. Their composition supports Ahlstrom’s commitment to both environmental sustainability and the development of high-quality materials.

Stevens Point Acquisition Enhances Product Portfolio

Ahlstrom’s recent acquisition of the Stevens Point facility in Wisconsin, USA, significantly expands its PSA labeling product offering. This acquisition strengthens the company’s manufacturing capabilities, providing customers with an even larger variety of sustainable, high-performance options.

With the Stevens Point facility now part of Ahlstrom’s global network, the company can offer a broader selection of PSA materials. This includes superior thermal transfer barcode printing solutions, prime label UV inkjet printing options, and sustainable semi-gloss label papers containing up to 30% PCR fibre content.

Commitment to Sustainable PSA Labeling Solutions

“Identifying better material solutions is our ongoing commitment. Ahlstrom’s recent innovations in release and label papers have raised the standards of performance, process efficiency, and environmental impact,” said Marco Troglia, Vice President, Release Liners.

Troglia highlighted the company’s dedication to continuously improving its product offerings, with Ahlstrom’s teams in Europe, the USA, and Brazil collaborating with customers and suppliers. The goal is to advance sustainability and resilience within the pressure-sensitive industry.

Ahlstrom’s Expanding Global Reach

Beyond its commitment to PSA labeling, Ahlstrom supports global customers with a wide array of high-performance Glassine, SCK, and CCK liners. These are used in various industries, including specialty tape, industrial applications, fiber composites, graphics, food, and medical sectors.

With manufacturing plants in Europe, North America, and South America, Ahlstrom’s expansive production platform allows the company to meet the growing demand for sustainable release and label papers across multiple industries and regions.
