ZOW 2020 –an epicentre for mindshare

 Wednesday, December 18, 2019

ZOW – the supplier event for the furniture industry and interior design is not only a communication platform for product presentations for the coming order season, but also acts as a forum for thinking ahead for future years. Similar to a craft workshop, ZOW  offers customers and developers the time and space to discuss exploring new paths or to forge bold ideas in rough form. All the partners in the furniture industry value chain will meet on an equal footing from February 4, 2020 – suppliers and service providers will gather with stakeholders from the production of kitchen, upholstered, living room, bedroom and office furniture as well as peers from the fields of interior design and architecture, the carpentry trade, shipbuilding and caravan construction.

ambigence, Deutsche Arturo Salice, Henkel and van Hoecke will be appearing at ZOW 2020, the workshop trade fair for development, production and sales. Among the pioneers and firm backers of a successful supplier event in Bad Salzuflen is Deutsche Arturo Salice GmbH, which is based in the region in Bad Oeynhausen. For the company, ZOW’s location in the heart of the East Westphalian furniture industry makes it the ideal trade fair to show prospective customers from the furniture industry innovations from interzum as solutions that are now ready to go into series production. “The proximity in the East Westphalia-Lippe furniture cluster is very important to us,” says Salice Marketing Director Frank Huntebrinker, “because it gives us valuable time to exchange ideas with our customers.”

The company’s stand in the familiar bright red will feature exciting developments: With its Exedra pocket door fitting, Salice offers a strong solution for pocket doors that impresses in the kitchen and living room just as much as it does in office environments. By contrast, Excessories, an innovative and exclusive cabinet accessory, creates order and clarity behind sliding doors. Also on show will be Air, one of the highlights in the hinge segment that has appeared in a host of new developments and opens up new possibilities for furniture design.

ambigence GmbH & Co. KG (Herford, North Rhine-Westphalia) will also showcase solutions in the fittings segment. In its case, a value creation network that aims to provide a platform for innovations in the furniture industry and is breaking new ground thanks to its neutrality and flexibility. Launched under the banner of “The panel is the new fitting” in early 2018, the company has set out to functionalise this furniture element, thereby laying the foundations for long-term change. An engine for new ideas, ambigence will be represented at the upcoming edition of ZOW at the pavilion hosted by igeL e.V., the Lightweight Construction Association.

The focus at the pavilion will be on communicating possible forms of integrating fittings to interested users. ambigence has a vision of future living environments in which technology merges invisibly with the furniture. Feedback to date has shown the integration of function in furniture has the potential to become the future standard for the furniture industry. “We’re looking forward to talking to visitors about these diverse opportunities and to presenting new design possibilities at ZOW,” says CEO Oliver Schael.

Family company van Hoecke from Sint-Niklaas, Belgium, will also be travelling to ZOW. A partner of the furniture industry since 1967, it will present its new organisation system, Ta’Or Box. Combining elegance and state-of-the-art technology, it is part of the series of products in the Orgalux inner dividing systems that was developed for the pull-out systems from an Austrian fittings specialist and offers customers a broad spectrum of possibilities.

In order to produce tailor-made subdividing systems for drawers, van Hoecke has now begun to assign codes to all pre-assembled drawers. When the code is scanned, an app identifies all the drawer’s features – including colour, material and dimensions. After the end customers answer some simple questions in a configurator, three specific options from an extensive selection of around 9,000 solutions are then proposed to them so that they can make their choice. This allows consumers to find the product they want quickly and easily – with exactly the right dimensions and their preferred design.

Henkel AG & Co. KGaA, based in Düsseldorf, is known in the furniture industry first and foremost for its innovative adhesive solutions. As in previous years, its products will be on display at the lightweight construction stand hosted by igeL e.V. The centrepiece will be PUR adhesives for kitchens, which are highly valued for their outstanding thermal stability and moisture resistance. Many of these products are now available with Micro-Emission (ME) technology.

In the edge-sealing segment, Henkel is marking the launch of its new development Technomelt PUR 270/5 ME, which will be on display at ZOW. The ME designation in the product name stands for a high standard of REACH-compliant safety in processing, with isocyanate emissions below 0.1%. This means that the product is exempt from hazard labelling. The new adhesive also impresses due to its exceptional flowability at line speeds of up to 80 m/min – which is synonymous with high initial adhesion, a hard bondline and low stringing. As anyone involved in furniture manufacturing knows, these properties allow for rapid bonding and very fast further processing of glued semi-finished products in the production line.

There are hundreds of further reasons why ZOW 2020 is yet again a firm fixture in the trade fair planning of innovative exhibitors – both among trade visitors from the Bad Salzuflen furniture cluster and those from further afield. Well timed for the industry’s sample cycle, the supplier trade fair with the feel of a workshop is hosted approximately halfway between the 2019 and 2021 editions of the industry’s leading international trade fair, interzum. It therefore provides enough time and scope for the first sparks of ideas for new implementations, for further product developments and company-specific adaptations of standard market solutions. In addition to being a craft workshop, studio and marketplace, ZOW will once again be one thing above all else: a forum for in-depth communication and active networking for all successful participants in the furniture value creation process.
