Xylexpo Arena: Heart of Xylexpo Digital

Once again the epicentre of the show, Xylexpo Arena emerged as the beating heart of Xylexpo, the biennial international exhibition of wood and furniture technology at FieraMilano-Rho from October 12 to 15. The arena is the focal point not only for the exhibitors, but also – through “Xylexpo Digital” – a virtual place for in-depth analysis and information for those who are not attending in person, through the Xylexpo television.

Important topics were addressed at the show. On October 12 the workshop topics were “Edgebanding: process evolution” in which Acimall-Catas engaged into the discussion. Franco Bulian, director of Catas, and Fabio Chiozza, adhesive group coordinator of Avisa-Federchimica, were present and shared thoughts.

Paolo Gronchi of Poliefun-Milan Polytechnic, “Giulio Natta” Department of Chemistry, Materials and Chemical Engineering, introduced “Poliefun, a cultural association for innovation and education in the surface treatment business”. Marco Togni of the University of Florence talked about “Wood for structural applications: new standards for visual classification and principles of automated classification”.

The opening event on Thursday, October 13, was on “MADE Competence Center: technology transfer case studies: the project of Meccanica Del Sarca spa”, with speeches by Alberto Danese, General Manager of Meccanica Del Sarca spa, and Filippo Boschi, project manager of MADE Competence Center i4.0.
“LCA Ready, the protocol promoted by Catas and Acimall” was another important topic addressed by Franco Bulian, director at Catas,Annamaria Franz, Catas representative, and Anna Bortoluzzi, scientific manager of Mapping LCA, introduced the new protocol for woodworking technology.
“Relevance of technology, sincerity of wood”, a meeting organized by GQL-Gruppo Qualità Legno.Speakers:Felice Ragazzo, president of GQL;Davide Maria Giachino and Fabio Spera, board members of GQL, and Gianfranco Magri, expert in wood diseases attracted special participation of the enthusiastic audience who were keen to know all about the latest innovations in the woodworking industry.

“How can you recognize wood? Fundamentals of macroscopic analysis of wood”. Flavio Ruffinatto, University of Turin, presented the book “Lignamundi”, the first Italian atlas for macroscopic wood recognition.
