Weinberger hits one million in glulam beam production: Ledinek updates

Ledinek_Milestone reached

Ledinek‘s report reveals that Weinberger Holz has reached a significant production milestone at its Abtenau site in the Tennengau district of Salzburg: the company has produced one million glulam beams in just ten years.

Weinberger Holz Makes an Investment in High-Tech Equipment for the Abtenau Site

The Abtenau production site was purchased by Weinberger Holz in 2010. After the site was virtually completely destroyed by a tragic fire in late 2013, the company chose to rebuild using avant-garde, tried-and-true technology, most notably Ledinek’s renowned Rotopress system. The Rotopress is positioned vertically beneath strength-graded and glued boards at the Weinberger factory. The 1.47-meter-tall press beds allow for the flexible production of pair beams and large-format trusses.

The lamellas are hydraulically crushed from the bottom upward into the empty press bed once they are all ready for a pressing cycle. Lateral pressure is used at this point to guarantee exact alignment. For every portion, 15 kN of pressure is applied by hydraulic rams spaced 50 cm apart. The plates are then pressed onto the beams and trusses with stresses of up to 140 kN using threaded rods spaced half a meter apart to apply additional top pressure. The technology enables continuous height adjustment of the press opening and exact pressing pressure adjustment between 0.7 and 1.1 N/mm².

Massive System Update

The Rotopress just had a thorough overhaul by Weinberger. To comply with the most recent technological standards, the quantity of lateral clamps was doubled and updated. Ledinek also replaced the hydraulic system as a whole. The press now runs more than 50% faster, with shorter cycle durations and higher-quality results. “The upgrade required a maximum downtime of two weeks, which posed a significant challenge for both us and the customer,” stated Bernhard Fandl of Ledinek. “Our team, led by service engineers Matej Lampreht and Patrick Kornherr, delivered excellent results. This achievement was only possible thanks to the outstanding collaboration with the Weinberger team, along with thorough planning and preparation.”

February 24 saw the successful and timely reopening of the improved Rotopress. “We are proud that even after more than a decade in service, our high-performance machines can still be upgraded to meet the latest technological standards,” Fandl concluded. “We wish the Weinberger team continued success and look forward to future collaboration.”
