Valmet has been entrusted with delivering a chipper feeding line upgrade to the woodyard of Unilin Panels in Vielsalm, Belgium. This order is included in Valmet’s confirmed orders for the fourth quarter of 2024, with the delivery scheduled during the mill’s annual shutdown in the third quarter of 2025. The financial value of the order has not been disclosed.
The mill’s current chipper feeding line has reached the end of its lifecycle, leading to issues such as variation in chip quality and limited production capacity. Additionally, mechanical wear on the inlet parts has increased the risk of discharged metal parts entering the chipper.
Antoine Deparpe, Improvement Engineering Manager at Unilin Panels, highlighted the importance of the upgrade, stating: “The chipper feeding line upgrade with the new infeed chute, open top spout and durable chipper hood will extend the lifetime of our woodyard area and secure a safe operation environment for our employees for the next years. We are looking forward to the upgrade and improvements in the chip consistency.”
Valmet’s Product Sales Manager, Nils Anspach, expressed gratitude for the collaboration, saying: “We are thankful for this opportunity to deliver this customised solution to Unilin Panels, as it shows our expertise also in woodyard upgrades. Technical Details of the Upgrade
The upgrade includes the delivery and installation of several components, such as an infeed chute, open top spout, durable chipper hood, couplings, and bearing assemblies. These enhancements are designed to ensure improved performance and operational safety.

Its Vielsalm production unit specialises in producing MDF panels for both domestic and international markets.
