Välinge Innovation reaches settlement with Triforest and Vancouver Mouldings & Floors

January 31, 2025
Valinge

Välinge Innovation has officially entered into confidential settlement agreements with Canadian flooring manufacturers Triforest Inc., Triforest Manufacturer Inc., and Vancouver Mouldings & Floors Inc. The agreements include an undisclosed monetary compensation, effectively bringing an end to legal proceedings initiated by Välinge in the Canadian Federal Court.

The dispute, filed on May 15, 2024, alleged that the Triforest companies and Vancouver Mouldings & Floors had infringed multiple claims of two Canadian patents within Välinge’s extensive intellectual property portfolio. It also asserted that 5G inserts, a critical component of Välinge’s well-known 5G locking system, had been sourced from an unauthorized manufacturer. With this settlement, the parties avoid further litigation.

Commitment to Intellectual Property Protection

Jenny Svärd, Legal Director at Välinge Innovation, emphasized the company’s firm stance on protecting its proprietary technologies:
“Enforcing our intellectual property rights is a cornerstone of our business strategy. With a rigorous IP compliance program and continuous market monitoring, we are always prepared to take legal action when necessary.”

Välinge Innovation has been a pioneer in flooring technology for over three decades, with a portfolio of approximately 3,500 granted patents covering flooring, furniture, and surface technologies. More than 300 global companies are licensed to use Välinge’s innovations.

A Landmark Decision for Industry Fairness

“This settlement reinforces the importance of respecting intellectual property rights to ensure a fair marketplace and drive innovation,” Svärd added.
