UPM Plywood has announced its major investment of 10 million euros in the development of the Plywood’s mill in Joensuu. 720 square meters of completely new production space will be added to the investment and new product lines and workspaces. UPM aims to strengthen the competitiveness of the mill by ensuring qualitative goods and the utmost security of supplies.
UPM Joensuu aims to manufacture plywood and plywood components for industrial applications, namely the floors of heavy-duty trailers and elements of LNG Tankers carrying liquid natural gas. Here, the quality of the products is focused on. Mika Kekki, Executive Vice President of UPM Plywood, says, “Personnel plays a significant role in the success of the mill. High-quality products come from the hands of committed experts, and the pride in keeping the customer promise ensures timely deliveries to customers. By investing in upgrading the plant and new premises, the company also strives to provide the best possible prerequisites for work.”
Antti Rinkinen, Mill Director of UPM Joensuu, adds, “Last week, UPM Plywood signed a three-year collective agreement, and in addition to that, the mill has renewed all local agreements that, in addition to this investment, support the smooth running of the work and the success of our own unit.” Tomi Vikla, Chief Shop Steward of UPM Joensuu, says, “New modern production lines make work easier, and with the help of new locally agreed models, we can optimize production and at the same time organize work in the best possible way from the employees’ point of view.”
UPM Joensuu Plywood has successfully employed over 170 people with a production capacity of 55,000 m3. The investments are aimed at developing the project efficiently. A new bio boiler was added in 2020, and many more productions were upgraded from 2018-2020.
