Global sensor-based sorting leader TOMRA Recycling has reinforced its commitment to the wood recycling segment with the appointment of Alexandre Clairembault as Segment Area Manager – Wood. Based in TOMRA’s Salon-de-Provence, France office, Alexandre will focus on expanding the company’s wood market across Europe, working closely with local sales teams.
With over 20 years of expertise in the wood industry, Alexandre brings in-depth knowledge spanning from raw materials to finished products. His career includes leadership roles at Egger France, Sonae Arauco, Kronospan, and Menuiseries Combes, along with international experience in Portugal and Spain. His expertise will be instrumental in strengthening TOMRA’s position as a leading provider of wood sorting solutions.
TOMRA Recycling was the first sensor-based sorting provider to establish a dedicated wood team, leading the industry in waste wood recycling technology. Its solutions help recyclers and manufacturers transform discarded wood into high-quality secondary raw materials, supporting a circular wood economy.
Cutting-Edge Wood Sorting Innovations
TOMRA’s pioneering X-TRACT™ technology, launched in 2014, enables high-throughput sorting of mixed waste wood streams using dual-energy X-ray transmission (XRT). It efficiently removes impurities such as metals, plastics, glass, and inert materials, ensuring a high-purity wood fraction.
In 2022, TOMRA introduced GAINnext™, an AI-powered deep learning solution that enhances wood sorting by recognizing objects based on shape, size, and visual characteristics. Combined with X-TRACT™, GAINnext™ enables precise sorting of different wood types, including non-processed wood (Wood A), clean processed wood (Wood B), and MDF.
Jose Matas, Segment Director for Wood at TOMRA Recycling, commented: “We are excited to welcome Alexandre. His deep industry knowledge and international experience will be invaluable in expanding our European market and strengthening our local teams.”
Alexandre Clairembault added: “Joining TOMRA at this pivotal moment is a great opportunity. As demand for recycled content grows, TOMRA’s advanced wood sorting solutions are key to building a truly circular wood economy. I look forward to supporting recyclers and manufacturers in maximizing operational efficiency while minimizing environmental impact.”
