Sunds Fibertech has created a cutting-edge solution for cleaning recycled fiberboard used in MDF and HDF production. The first system is scheduled for delivery to Sonae Arauco in Mangualde, Portugal, in May 2025.
As the panelboard industry increasingly focuses on sustainability, the use of recycled materials to produce new panels has become a top priority. By creating a circular system where nothing goes to waste, the industry can repurpose old products into new ones, conserving valuable global resources. One specific area is recycling of MDF and HDF, which has been challenging due to the impact on the recycled fiber quality. Over the past year, Sunds Fibertech has developed a cleaning system to address this issue.
“It was crucial for us to choose a partner with the most efficient system for this new technology”, says Paulo Pinto De Sousa, Director Industry Strategy, Technology & Projects at Sonae Arauco. “We chose Sunds Fibertech for their superior technology and expertise.”
Jesper Eklund, Managing Director of Sunds Fibertech Sweden, says: “This shows Sonae Arauco’s dedication to innovation and sustainability, and we are proud to support their high goals with our technology. The new recycling technology for cleaning MDF is the result of over a year of dedicated R&D in close collaboration with our customer.”
The new cleaning system integrates a compact fiber conditioning module with advanced technology for efficient cleaning while minimising fiber losses. The system eliminates the need for additional emission points, highlighting its environmentally friendly and unique design.
