Starwood relies again on Siempelkamp technology

 Monday, February 1, 2021

A new milestone in the long-term partnership between Starwood and Siempelkamp. This is the fifth time that Starwood has opted for the Siempelkamp ContiRoll® press technology and a Siempelkamp system. The Turkish wood-based materials producer has once again trusted their services and have already placed an order for the second thin board plant for the production of thin MDF / HDF boards for its second production site near Inegöl.

The new high-performance thin-board plant is being built at the second Starwood location near Inegöl, which was previously used to produce wood chips. It complements the capacity of approx. 750 to 800 m³ / day, which are currently being produced on the first 7 ‘line. The new 8 ‘line is designed for a capacity of a further 1,000 m³ / day with board thicknesses of 2.7 to 3.0 mm. Their thickness range extends from 1.5 mm to 6 mm. It is therefore geared towards the production of thin and ultra-thin boards, but can also be used in furniture board production for MDF and L-MDF up to 22 mm.

Very thin MDF boards are increasingly being used, for example, as furniture back walls, top layers of doors or drawer bottoms. Thin MDF can only be produced economically with very fast-running systems – the new system for Starwood is accordingly designed for 2,000 mm / s.

The core of the scope of delivery is the mold and press line around the continuous ContiRoll Ò pressGeneration 9 in the format 8 ‘x 28.8 m. In addition to the flexible infeed, the press is specially equipped with a hydraulic concept developed for thin and ultra-thin board production and a so-called lightweight board package for furniture board production. “The flexible press infeed is the guarantee for consistently high production speeds in thin board production. The compaction curve of the fiber mat in the press inlet is crucial for safe and long-term production at the highest press speeds. The overall configuration of the ContiRoll® hydraulics enables almost isobaric press technology – with the smallest deviations in the thickness of the thin boards produced, which are further processed without being sanded, ”says Ulrich Kaiser, Sales Manager Wood-Based Panels Siempelkamp. “Starwood is one of the thin-board specialists in our industry who has always opened its doors to visitors from all over the world and is a trendsetter with the thin-board line 1. Many other customers represented worldwide have therefore followed this philosophy and our overall concept for thin board production and have decided in favor of Siempelkamp technology. “

In addition to the press technology, the spreading technology is also crucial for successful thin board production. Here, Siempelkamp relies on the “Starformer”, which has been specially developed for this application, with a downwardly fine leveler, which makes milling (scalping) of the fiber mat unnecessary and guarantees the best possible spreading accuracy. The overall concept rounds off the adaptive spreading developed by Siempelkamp, which allows automatic control of the spreading machine setting.

Assembly will start in mid-2021; The aim is to set the first board for the end of 2021 based on the longstanding cooperation and experience of both companies.
