 Wednesday, June 1, 2016

Goran OrlanderGoran Orlander, who is the Sustainable Forestry Strategist at Sodra Timber, has been elected as the Chairman of the Forestry Research Institute of Sweden at the Annual General Meeting of the Institute. Goran will succeed Herman Sundquist, who stepped down from the position earlier this year when he was appointed Director General of the Swedish Forest Agency.

The Forestry Research Institute of Sweden is funded by the forest industry and the Swedish government. The Institute’s mission is to develop and communicate knowledge, services and products that further increase sustainability when using the forest for social benefits.

Goran Orlander shares, “The forest is Sweden’s most important resource in the transition towards a bioeconomy. The Forestry Research Institute of Sweden plays a key role in the move towards low-impact forestry with high productivity.”

Goran has been employed at Sodra for 13 years, is a forest officer, holds a PhD in Forestry, and has previously held positions at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Linnaeus University and the Swedish Forest Agency.

The Forestry Research Institute of Sweden conducts research on sustainable development. The Institute has more than 120 employees, of whom about 75 are researchers.
