Södra_Acquisition

For many years, Smartt has been a successful sales channel for Södra Wood in the Netherlands and Belgium, and Södra once owned a portion of the company. In the Netherlands, where the Group has long held a dominant position, Södra has a strategically significant market.

Through the acquisition, Södra further strengthens its customer offer, advances its business, and demonstrates its long-term commitment to the market. Customers, staff, Robert Jan de Waard, and Ronald Rijswijk will all be unaffected by the acquisition, and business as usual will continue. Former co-owner Robert Jan de Waard, who has collaborated with Södra during the collaboration, will remain the company’s chief executive officer.

“Södra has been a fantastic partner, and it feels natural that the ownership now transitions to Södra. The collaboration between Södra and Smartt has always worked very well. I am grateful for the expertise and experience we have created together over the years. Our customers can rest assured that Södra will continue providing the same strong offer with excellent service and high-quality products as we have for years. The sales contact will also remain the same,” Robert Jan de Waard shares his experience.

Together with its clients and staff, Södra is eager to go on its prosperous path in the Netherlands. “Through the acquisition, we have the opportunity to increase and improve our local market presence and thereby also expand our offering to different market segments and customers in the Netherlands and Belgium,” notes Södra Wood’s Marketing Manager, Andreas Jonasson.

About Södra

Södra was established in 1938 with the belief that their combined strength would be greater. Currently the largest forest-owner association in Sweden, Södra boasts a global industry that turns forest raw materials into renewable products, and over 50,000 family forest owners as members. “People just see a forest,” the Group said. They see the forest as a source of long-term economic growth, climatic advantages, renewable raw materials, and Swedish innovation that will only continue to expand.

The primary goal of Södra, which employs 3,000 people, is to transform the forest products that its 52,000 owners provide into climate-smart, renewable products. They generate profitability in this way. Pulp and paper, sawn timber, renewable energy, building systems, and dissolving pulp are just a few of the products that the Group produces. After that, the goods are shipped to foreign markets.
