Sodra reported a record-breaking third-quarter 2022 performance. Due to a healthy market for Sodra’s pulp and energy products, the outcome was higher. The association’s results in the upcoming quarters are anticipated to be impacted by the unstable business environment. Net sales of the Sodra group escalated to SEK 8,102 million (6,999), surging up 16% compared with the previous year period in the third quarter of 2022,. The company in fact recorded the highest ever quarterly operating profit amounting to SEK 2,480 million (2,148).

Several challenges during the quarter

Operating profit totaled SEK 6,779 million for the first nine months of 2022. (4,021). At the end of the term, the equity ratio was 63 percent, and the return on capital employed was 41 percent (26). The third-quarter performance is a reflection of the favourable market circumstances, which saw considerable demand and very favourable prices for Södra’s pulp and energy goods. The mills at Södra generated large amounts of pulp in steady quality at high rates of production.
“I am happy and proud of the result we delivered in these highly uncertain times. The result was achieved through long-term efforts, where the commendable work of employees and members built a Södra that is strong enough to stand firm despite a highly volatile business environment. The result will enable us to continue our development of family forestry in Gotaland, and to meet the challenges ahead,” said Sodra’s President Lotta Lyra.

Focus on improved efficiency and the energy situation

This procedure includes the World-class Efficiency initiative. The project will increase the association’s overall profitability and has already produced efficiency improvements totaling SEK 167 million over the course of a year. By 2025, it is intended to reach all-year round improvements of SEK 1 billion. Sodra’s energy plan is an integral step in the procedure. Since Sodra generates more electricity than it consumes, 146 GWh were sold to the national grid in the third quarter to help keep Gotaland’s electrical supply running. Because of long-term choices and investments in the industrial structure, which offers stability in unstable energy markets, Södra is a net producer today.
