Italian woodworking specialist Falegnameria Casari Joinery Workshop has strengthened its production capabilities with the installation of SCM’s dmc system sanding machine featuring an integrated laser engraving unit. The investment marks another important step in the company’s long-term strategy of combining traditional craftsmanship with advanced woodworking technology.

The new equipment was officially introduced during celebrations marking the company’s 45th anniversary in December 2024. The milestone reflected both the firm’s heritage and its continued focus on innovation within the premium furniture manufacturing sector.

Situated on the outskirts of Rome along the historic Braccianese route, the family-owned business has built a strong reputation for producing customised, high-end furniture and complete interior solutions. Its location reflects centuries of craftsmanship while supporting modern manufacturing requirements.

The business was founded in 1979 by Mario Casari after years of experience in the woodworking industry. Having entered the trade at only 12 years of age, he gradually developed the expertise that later formed the foundation of the company. His sons, Gianni, Ernesto and Mirko Casari, joined the business from an early stage and learned every aspect of joinery directly within the workshop.

According to the family, one of their earliest significant commissions involved furnishing a villa in Rome. Additional projects soon followed through customer recommendations, allowing the company to steadily expand its market presence.

Initially, production centred on doors and windows. Over time, operations evolved towards bespoke furniture manufacturing and complete interior design solutions. Today, the workshop collaborates closely with architects and designers, primarily serving luxury residential projects requiring individually crafted solid wood furniture.

The business now operates with a workforce of ten employees. The next generation of the family also contributes to daily operations. Architect Valentina Casari, together with Matteo and Nicolò Casari, has become an important part of the company’s continuing development.

As demand for customised furniture increased, greater production efficiency became essential. Shorter delivery schedules also required investment in modern manufacturing solutions. Technology was therefore identified as a strategic priority.

SCM was selected as the company’s preferred machinery partner because of its established expertise in woodworking technology and technical support services. Earlier investments included an edgebander together with a gabbiani s95 panel saw equipped with a lifting system for improved material handling.

The latest addition further expands the workshop’s production flexibility.

The company sought equipment capable of producing distinctive decorative finishes on cupboard doors, wall cladding and interior doors. Market demand for brushed textures and three-dimensional surface effects has continued to grow. Such finishes can be challenging to reproduce consistently through manual processes alone, even within highly skilled artisan workshops.

The SCM dmc system addresses this challenge by combining precision sanding with laser engraving technology. Greater consistency can now be achieved across repeated production runs while maintaining premium quality standards.

Before completing the purchase, members of the Casari team visited SCM’s Surface Tech Lab in Villa Verucchio, Rimini. Practical demonstrations were carried out with assistance from SCM’s technical specialists.

During the evaluation process, the workshop tested the laser engraving system across several materials, including veneered wood, MDF and Corian. The machine demonstrated its ability to produce decorative finishes while maintaining high levels of precision.

Programming was simplified through SCM’s eye-M control panel. Machine settings can be adjusted efficiently, helping operators manage laser processing parameters with accuracy. Reliable repeatability was also demonstrated during testing.

One of the earliest projects involving the technology supported the B-CAD event held in Rome during November 2024. A bespoke exhibition stand featuring three-dimensional decorative panels was produced for the event.

The panels were manufactured at SCM’s Villa Verucchio facility through close collaboration between the Casari team and architectural practice MamaDesign. Additional project partners included Verdure for lighting solutions and Le Tapissier Armini for seating elements.

The completed installation demonstrated the company’s ability to satisfy demanding architectural specifications while delivering premium decorative finishes.

Valentina Casari explained that the final surfaces successfully reflected the design firm’s expectations while preserving the natural appearance of the materials. Positive feedback was received throughout the exhibition, with visitors highlighting the quality of the finished products.

The new dmc system sanding machine with laser engraving unit was officially presented at the company’s Rome headquarters on 12 December 2024 as part of its anniversary celebrations. The occasion highlighted more than four decades of continuous business development and investment.

The machinery is expected to strengthen Falegnameria Casari’s capability to deliver increasingly sophisticated customised furniture for architects, designers and luxury residential clients. Traditional woodworking expertise continues to be supported by advanced manufacturing technology.

With this latest investment, the company reinforces its commitment to innovation while preserving the craftsmanship that has defined the Casari family business for 45 years. The integration of laser-assisted surface finishing positions the workshop to respond more efficiently to evolving market expectations without compromising the quality associated with bespoke Italian furniture manufacturing.
