SCM Open House showcases groundbreaking innovations in woodworking technology, drawing over 3,000 visitors from 60 countries

March 18, 2026
SCM Technology Days

The recent SCM Open House in Rimini proved to be a landmark event for the woodworking industry, even amid the challenges posed by the global macroeconomic and geopolitical landscape. Attracting more than 3,000 visitors from 60 countries, the event highlighted the increasing international demand for advanced woodworking technologies, automation, and sustainable production solutions.

Held from March 12 to 14 at SCM’s Headquarters, the Open House not only showcased the latest product innovations but also offered a glimpse into the future of woodworking production. The event provided a platform for manufacturers, dealers, and industry leaders to explore connected, flexible, and highly efficient production systems that integrate the latest in robotics, automation, and artificial intelligence.

A New Era of Woodworking Innovation

SCM’s Open House centered around a forward-thinking vision for the woodworking industry, one where competitive advantage is not solely driven by the machine or plant, but by an entire integrated ecosystem of technologies and services. The key to this new era is ensuring connected, flexible, and sustainable production processes. This approach is made possible through SCM’s state-of-the-art software solutions and proactive after-sales support.

Pietro Gheller, Director of SCM’s Wood Division, emphasized that customer relationships and services have become a central focus of the company’s strategy. “We work closely with our customers to maximize machine performance and improve efficiency. By leveraging advanced digital tools, we can proactively address issues before they arise,” he said.

One of the most notable advancements presented at the event was SCM’s use of artificial intelligence and connected systems that gather data from over 5,000 machines worldwide. This data is used to predict machine performance and optimize production processes. The company’s approach to after-sales support, such as predictive maintenance services through AI-powered tools, marked a key milestone in the industry’s evolution.

Comprehensive Solutions for Every Production Requirement

A highlight of the event was SCM’s new suite of integrated solutions designed to improve operational efficiency and control in manufacturing environments. These solutions leverage cutting-edge technologies, such as WinMES, SCM’s Manufacturing Execution System, which interprets real-time data to optimize production workflows.

Among the innovations unveiled was the Smart Spindle system, a spindle-sensor tool that enables predictive analysis to prevent unplanned downtime. Additionally, SCM’s cybersecurity advancements ensured that production environments could remain secure and resilient to potential cyber threats, safeguarding both data and infrastructure.

The Additional Care program, introduced in January 2026, was another crucial innovation. This program offers extended warranty coverage, technical support, and a three-year maintenance plan for all new SCM machines, ensuring more stable and reliable production.

Advanced Automation and Flexible Production

Automation was a central theme at the SCM Open House. The company demonstrated its integrated cell systems that allow for batch-size-one production, a model that combines automation with operational flexibility. One of the standout features was the Flexstore HP, an automatic storage system that manages panel formats and optimizes stock during unmanned shifts.

The Gabbiani GT 2 single-blade panel saw and the Morbidelli X200 nesting CNC machining centre were also showcased as part of an advanced automated workflow, designed to increase productivity while reducing waste. Thanks to the Maestro Stackwise software, material yield was optimized through intelligent panel layout planning.

For smaller businesses, SCM introduced the Stefani Cell E, a compact automated solution designed to make high-quality edge banding and panel production more accessible for small and medium-sized enterprises. This solution demonstrated SCM’s commitment to providing flexible production systems that cater to businesses of all sizes.

Cutting-Edge CNC Technology and Panel Processing

New CNC machining centres, such as the Accord 400 and Accord 500Edge, were also unveiled, featuring innovations such as the Flexmatic Pro worktable and Compact edgebanding technology. These models are designed to handle both solid wood and panels, providing a versatile solution for woodworking businesses that require precision and flexibility.

SCM also introduced its new Gabbiani AF Beam Saw, which features rapid work cycles and energy-efficient motorization. The new saws are engineered for high-precision cutting, making them ideal for large-scale production environments. In addition to these saws, the Celaschi P20 automatic double-end tenoner was displayed, known for its precision and compact design.

Woodworking for Construction and Timber Industries

The Open House also spotlighted the latest advancements in timber construction. SCM’s GL 5-axis CNC machining centre was presented as a solution for producing straight and curved glulam elements, which are increasingly used in public building projects. The ability to handle large-scale projects with high performance and reliability was a key selling point of this system, aimed at companies involved in modern timber construction.

Additionally, innovations for window and door production were unveiled, such as the Windorflex line, which integrates automation with flexible production capabilities. The line is designed to cater to the growing demand for smaller batch production in the building materials sector without sacrificing efficiency.

Superfici Finishing Solutions

Finishing technologies were another focal point of the event, with Superfici showcasing the Supermatt system. This new physical matting system achieves ultra-low-gloss finishes with a velvety tactile effect, ideal for the growing demand for matte finishes in furniture production. The system’s easy integration into existing lines makes it a cost-effective solution for manufacturers looking to meet modern aesthetic trends.

A Strong International Response

The response to SCM’s Open House was overwhelmingly positive, with more than 1,000 companies and over 300 dealers from around the world attending the event. Markets represented included Italy, Poland, Germany, Spain, and the United Kingdom, all of which showcased a strong commitment to adopting the latest in woodworking technology.

Gabriele Patti, SCM Commercial Director, noted that despite the ongoing geopolitical and macroeconomic challenges, SCM’s international market share had increased, driven primarily by strong performances in European markets. “The Open House was a great success, confirming that the industry is eager to embrace innovation and automation,” said Patti.

Conclusion

The SCM Open House served as a key milestone in the woodworking industry’s shift toward automation, connectivity, and sustainability. With its focus on integrated solutions, predictive maintenance, and advanced manufacturing technologies, SCM is leading the way in redefining the future of woodworking production. As the event demonstrated, the demand for these innovations is not just strong but growing globally, positioning SCM at the forefront of the industry’s technological transformation.
