Schmalz infuses digital technology in the vacuum clamping systems

 Monday, April 20, 2020

Schmalz upgrades vacuum blocks with integrated NFC transmission standard and enables it to communicate and stay connected with Smartphones. Vacuum blocks from Schmalz now integrate the NFC transmission standard, marking the first-ever use of digital technology in the company’s vacuum clamping systems. This simplifies product identification for users via smartphone and also optimizes service processes.

Whether initial equipment, retrofit solutions or spare parts, J. Schmalz GmbH offers the right clamping equipment for diverse applications in CNC wood working. Plus, the vacuum expert has now added digital technology to its clamping equipment and also integrated the NFC communication standard. This gives users quick and direct access to all technical data for the suction cup. NFC stands for Near Field Communication and refers to point-to-point data transmission between two NFC-compatible devices over a short distance, i.e. a few centimetres. The short distance prevents unwanted coupling with a neighbouring component.

Users only need an NFC-compatible smartphone. As soon as the smartphone is held near the vacuum block, all the values are displayed on the screen, including dimensions, article numbers, serial numbers, and product-specific documentation. This allows for clear identification even when the surface is worn and the product label is no longer legible. The correct technical data allows spare parts to be quickly located and also speeds up access to the Online Shop or Service Team.
