The Lithuanian Forest Owners Association has given SCA the esteemed title for exceptional management of private woods, which is a notable acknowledgement of sustainable land stewardship. The award particularly draws attention to SCA’s activities in Klaipeda County, an area that is essential to the nation’s natural and economic landscape.
The award ceremony served as a high-level endorsement of SCA’s methods, with Lithuania’s Minister of the Environment, Kastytis Žuromskas, and the leadership of the Forest Owners Association personally expressing their appreciation. The commendation underscores a successful cross-border transfer of forestry expertise from Sweden to the Baltic states.
The selection process was far from superficial. A specialised commission conducted a comprehensive assessment of SCA’s holdings, evaluating the company against a strict set of industrial and environmental benchmarks. Key factors in the win included:
Reforestation excellence: Ensuring that harvested areas are replanted with speed and precision to maintain the forest cycle.
Biodiversity protection: Implementing strategies that safeguard local flora and fauna during active operations.
Infrastructure maintenance: Sustaining high-quality forest roads and access points to minimise soil impact and improve management efficiency.
Silviculture standards: Applying advanced thinning and growth-enhancement techniques.
Since entering the Baltic market in 2019, SCA has aggressively expanded its footprint. The company now oversees more than 70,000 hectares of land across Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. While SCA is a relatively new player in the Lithuanian private forestry sector, this award confirms its status as a leading force for “active forestry.”
Lars-George Hedlund, Head of SCA’s operations in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, noted that the recognition validates the company’s long-term philosophy.
“Swedish forestry is at the global forefront all the way from planting to silviculture and harvesting,” Hedlund remarked. “Forestry is fundamentally a long-term operation. It is particularly honourable that SCA, despite our relatively short presence here, is already being recognised for active forestry in harmony with both climate and nature.”

SCA’s success in Klaipeda is largely attributed to the application of the Swedish forestry model, which balances high-yield timber production with stringent nature conservation. This methodology is particularly relevant today as the European Union intensifies its focus on carbon sequestration and climate-resilient landscapes.
SCA has shown that private forest ownership can be both economic and environmentally regenerative by fusing Swedish technology developments with localised knowledge. The Klaipeda Prize provides a model for how foreign forestry companies can help the local bioeconomy and positively impact national environmental goals.
With a portfolio exceeding 70,000 hectares and a growing team of local contractors, SCA’s commitment to the Baltic region appears steadfast. The company continues to invest in state-of-the-art harvesting technology and digital mapping to ensure that every hectare under its care contributes to a sustainable future
