Bürkle completes another project in plastic card

 Wednesday, February 2, 2022

Bürkle extends support to the Korean market by completing a large-scale plastic card project. At the end of last year, Robert Bürkle GmbH successfully completed another major project in the plastic card business area. Three new laminating lines were delivered for plastic card production on the Korean market. The production facilities, which have existed for more than twenty years, are brought up to date with the latest press technologies.

Robert Bürkle GmbH, based in Freudenstadt, has delivered three more new press lines developed in Germany for the Korean plastic card market. They were built and delivered from the production facility of the subsidiary in Shanghai, Bürkle Machinery Shanghai. The presses will be used to produce a variety of cards over the next year. Specifically, these are three SMARTLAM CHK presses primarily designed for high-volume production of a variety of card types. By investing in the new production facilities, the manufacturers are expanding and renewing their production and replacing the 20-year-old electrically heated machines with the latest thermal oil-heated SMARTLAM laminators.

Bürkle laminating presses have been on the plastic card market for more than 40 years. With today’s compact design and constantly evolving process and control technology, the presses are the world’s leading production solution. They are used, among other things, for the lamination of RFID cards, bank cards, passports and ID cards. “We are proud to have once again equipped an entire market with our technology. The three individual projects underline that we have found the right solutions for the production of plastic cards over the past years and decades,” says Mathias Kern, project manager at Bürkle . The successful installation was completed during the difficult time of the pandemic.

In addition to bank and PETG cards, dual-interface cards are also produced on the CHKs. Dual interface cards are chip cards whose chip offers two interfaces. In addition to the dual interface cards, hybrid cards also offer two data interfaces. In contrast to hybrid cards, where two different chips or a chip and a magnetic stripe are implemented in one card, one chip maps both interfaces in dual-interface cards. This means that the card can be addressed via a contact or contactless (RFID).
