Raft Furniture, a London-based furniture company, announced “represents a new premium retail experience with the launch of the 20,000 square foot House of Raft showroom-workshop. Customers may observe the entire production process in a true industry-first on-high street setting, which includes a sofa artisan workshop, interior design hub, furniture showroom, and outlet center, according to Raft.
“The customer journey at House of Raft is seamless, and all under one roof. This will create an opportunity for trade collaborations as the sofa workshop space will operate as trade only, other than for appointments for customers who have bought a Raft sofa,” notes a company spokesperson. He adds, “Once customers confirm their purchase, in-house artisans in the workshop begin crafting the sofa by hand. Once underway, appointments can be scheduled to watch your sofa being made by one of Raft’s sofa experts, for a fully immersive, informative, and reassuring experience showcasing the entire handmade process.”
Mick Quinn, director and co-founder at Raft Furniture, states: “What we’re experiencing right now is a cultural revival. More and more people are looking to buy from local heritage brands, and Raft is offering the complete package.” He continues, “We have been working locally for so long, but physically merging our artisan sofa workshop with a bricks-and-mortar store creates a genuine connection between consumers and craftsmen. Customers will have the opportunity to enjoy the immersive sofa-making experience.”
Raft announced in January of this year that its first store on Edgware Road would be closing, but a massive expansion was happening behind the scenes. This summer will see the inauguration of House of Raft, which the brand believes is “the start of a retail experience that celebrates total transparency and quality” after a redevelopment opportunity allowed Raft to undergo significant renovations and incorporate its London sofa workshop. The showroom, outlet, and interior design hub will open on Saturday, 5th July. The trade-only sofa artisan workshop will open its doors at the end of the summer.
About Raft Furniture
Along with their families and a seasoned group of interior designers and furniture enthusiasts, Heinz Frye and Mick Quinn started Raft in 1999 and continue to serve as managing directors today. Mick’s single mother reared him in North London, which inspired him and Heinz’s goal to support the neighborhood. With a focus on repurposed teak furniture and handcrafted London couches, Raft has been a company dedicated to sustainability since 1999. Raft now boasts four shops across the country, five couch factories in Wembley, and a recovered teak factory in Indonesia. Raft became the biggest British maker and retailer in any Westfield Shopping Center when it launched its largest flagship store in August 2022 in the Westfield neighborhood of London.
