North Africa imported approximately 492,000 m³ of softwood lumber from leading exporters in Europe and North America in September (-23% compared to 2016). The import from Sweden was 168,000 m³ (-24%), from Finland 126,000 m³ (-23%) and from Russia 114,000 m³ (-27%). The import of lumber in Algeria is still very low in September, but was the highest since April.
The North African import of softwood lumber from leading exporters in Europe and North America totaled 3.98 million m³ during January-September (-29% compared to 2016). The import from Sweden during the period was 1.42million m³ (-18%). The import from Finland was 1.31 million m³ (-19%) and from Russia 738,000 m³ (-46%).
The trend line for the Swedish export of softwood lumber to North Africa has increased slightly in 2017. The trend line for Finland is decreasing. The trend line for Russia is increasing when they include the figures for September, but remains at a low level for the country. The trend line for Austria-Slovenia decreases further to a very low level for the region. The trend lines for the Baltics and Germany are at low levels for the countries. The exports from Romania, the U.S. and Canada to North Africa are very limited.
