Minister of Transportation to grace the opening ceremony at Hauerseter

 Thursday, January 20, 2022

Norske Skog at Saugbrugs collaborates with Nortømmer and Viken Skog and establishes Tømmerterminal Hauerseter AS, a privately owned railroad terminal for loading timber by rail. The Norwegian Minister of Transport, Jon-Ivar Nygard, will be attending the railroad opening on Wednesday, 19 .

In order to comply with the green transition, the mills’ inbound and outbound transport must be pollution-free. In addition to reducing carbon emissions and costs, we will also see fewer heavy trucks transporting timber on roads. Sven Ombudstvedt, CEO of Norske Skog, comments on the initiative, “A further development of the railway network and the terminal structure until 2050 will be a prerequisite for implementing the green transition in the industry and the fulfillment of Norway’s emission obligations in the Glasgow agreement.”

The timber terminal will transport between 100,000 and 150,000 cubic meters of spruce pulpwood every year to Norske Skog Saugbrugs in Halden. The amount of timber truckloads corresponds to somewhere between 2,500 and 3,750 each year .

The terminal at Haueseter is very well located. It lies based in the north of Gardermoen. As a result, Hauerseter will relieve the other terminals, reduce the number of trucks on the roads and decrease transport distances from the forest around the terminal. A capacity challenge at the Norsenga timber terminal in Kongsvinger was one of the reasons for the establishment of the new terminal.

A private initiative established the terminal at Hauerseter in Ullensaker municipality. General manager Tor Henrik Kristiansen in Viken Skog states, “Recently, we have put in place the necessary approvals from both Jernbanetilsynet and BaneNor to be able to load and transport timber by railway.”

The first timber transporter already delivered timber on 23rd December. The first train delivery is expected to start in January. Kristiansen reveals his excitement by stating, “Now we are looking forward to the official opening, and we are very happy that the Minister of Transport comes to attend.”
