Lunawood opens next-generation Thermowood collection with seamless Hidden Fixing

Lunawood-Thermowood collection

Finnish innovator Lunawood has unveiled its latest collection built upon the foundation of its proprietary, chemical-free Thermowood process. This new range emphasises clean lines, tactile surfaces, and, most critically, the convenience of a Hidden Fixing (HF) system across a broader range of applications, opening the door to truly seamless and elegant design solutions for modern building envelopes and interiors.

The core technology behind the collection—Thermowood—is crucial to its performance. Utilising only heat and steam to modify certified Nordic Pine and Spruce, the process dramatically enhances the wood’s properties. It achieves exceptional dimensional stability, becomes highly resistant to decay, and removes resin, making it ideal for everything from high-humidity spa environments to harsh exterior facades. This chemical-free approach also ensures a product that is environmentally sound and safe for indoor air quality.

The most compelling feature of the new launch is the integration of the Hidden Fixing groove across four distinctive new exterior cladding options. For architects and builders striving for a refined, contemporary look, visible screws and fasteners are often a distraction. The new Lunawood HF profiles eliminate this issue, delivering a clean, modern surface that places the focus entirely on the wood’s natural beauty and profile geometry.

The highlights of the new exterior range include:

  • Luna Classic HF 21×117 Brushed and Luna Classic Line HF 21×116 Brushed: These profiles mark Lunawood’s first pine claddings featuring an appealing brushed surface. This technique slightly raises the wood grain, creating a tangible texture that enhances the wood’s inherent character while maintaining a contemporary aesthetic. The Classic Line profile adds a subtle fake groove in the center, allowing for intricate pattern creation and visual rhythm when combined with the standard Classic HF.
  • Luna Triple HF 26×140: This is the much-anticipated Hidden Fixing version of Lunawood’s popular batten-look profile. The multi-face profile creates the distinct shadow lines and depth of an architectural batten system but is achieved with a single, easy-to-install board, now without the visual clutter of screws. Its thinner profile and structural stability also make it a versatile choice for feature walls in interiors or for movable exterior structures like pergolas and screens.
  • Luna Grain HF 19×142 Brushed: Designed specifically for a completely flat, seamless aesthetic, the Luna Grain uses Nordic Spruce with a brushed finish to highlight its natural grain. Its innovative butt-joint tongue-and-groove system allows for installation without visible gaps or screws, delivering the sought-after look of solid, smooth planking on a facade.
  • Luna Arctic Sharp HF 20×142 Brushed: A strategic expansion of the pre-aged Luna Arctic family. This cladding provides the coveted silver-grey patina of naturally weathered wood instantly upon installation, eliminating the multi-year waiting period for wood to gray naturally. Suitable for both exterior and interior use, it offers a sophisticated, maintenance-free finish that perfectly complements modern, minimalist architectural styles.

Beyond facades, the collection broadens its application to include specialised profiles for interior wellness spaces, capitalising on Thermowood’s unique properties. Thanks to the thermal modification process, Lunawood is resin-free and possesses exceptionally low thermal conductivity. This means that in high-heat environments like saunas, the wood surfaces remain comfortably cool to the touch—a crucial factor for user comfort and safety.

The expanded interior and sauna product range, featuring the new Luna Round 15×92 panel, offers designers more flexibility in creating bespoke sauna, spa, and bathroom environments. The dimensional stability of the Thermowood ensures that the panels resist warping and shrinkage despite the extreme temperature and humidity fluctuations inherent in these spaces, guaranteeing a long-lasting, pristine finish.

A final notable addition is the robust Luna Block 32×140. This profile, designed for architectural depth and unique surface geometry, is 32mm thick, making it ideal for combining with other 3D claddings in Lunawood’s range. Its deep edges form a distinct batten-style shadow line, offering a robust aesthetic and a new option for creating unique, high-impact exterior surfaces that play dramatically with light and shadow.

By focusing its latest collection on Hidden Fixing technology and diverse tactile surfaces, Lunawood is directly addressing the growing demand from the architectural community for sustainable, high-performance materials that do not compromise on visual purity. This strategic launch solidifies the role of Finnish Thermowood as an essential material in the future of low-carbon, high-design construction across the globe.
