The Koskisen took an advancing step as its new sawmill started operating on the first Monday in July at Tarhanmäki. Twenty months ago the ground was first broken and the sawmill successfully reached its apex, perfectly on schedule.
July 3 was the day of the inauguration that started with a customary joint meeting. About thirty people attended the event. This crowd included both representatives from equipment manufacturers and Koskisen’s own employees.
Only one log class was processed on the first working day of the new Koskisen sawmill. Sawn timber was successfully sawed per customer orders. The line did operate without any breaks. In total, 800 logs were sawn that Monday, as the original goal had been achieved well before the end of the shift.
Various factors were monitored while the sawmill was working. These monitored factors included the quality check of the sawn timber and wood chips to safety. Before the line began operating, all the equipment manufacturers signed a declaration to maintain the safety of the area.
Standard goals-
This new sawmill will work with the old one for serving the customers well, while maintaining the quality and time. The goal for the start of the autumn is a 60% utilisation rate that will gradually lead to full utilisation.
Following around four weeks of operations of the line, only spruce has been sawn. Project Director Lassi Santala believes that when the settings are right, the species of timber being sawn will not matter. Presently, the log scanners are being tuned in collaboration with the equipment manufacturer. He also believes that the mill will soon reach the goal of one hundred per cent utilisation rate with time and integrity while the maintaining the reputation the company.
