Starting June 01, 2025, Iisveden Metsä Oy’s business operations have been merged into Koskisen. Based in Suonenjoki, Iisveden Metsä produces around 140,000 m³ of spruce sawn timber each year. The personnel of Iisveden Metsä, around 50 employees, have also joined Koskisen as existing employees under their previous terms. In 2024, Iisveden Metsä’s revenue amounted to EUR 52.7 million, with an EBITDA of EUR 1.4 million.
Iisveden Metsä is a strong and significant local player whose customers and target markets complement Koskisen’s customer base and markets in an optimal way. Both companies focus on higher-quality, premium market segments, such as in Japan and Italy.
Going forward, the joint objective is to source wood raw material efficiently for the sawmilling business, while increasingly acquiring birch for Koskisen’s Panel Industry. The wood procurement area of Iisveden Metsä is well suited for sourcing birch.
As a result of the transaction, Koskisen’s annual wood procurement volume increases to approximately 1,900,000 m³ (of which Iisveden Metsä contributes about 400,000 m³) and its sawing capacity to approximately 540,000 m³ (of which Iisveden Metsä accounts for about 140,000 m³).
The History of Iisveden Metsä
Iisveden Metsä Oy was established in 1924 by local forest owners, with the primary goal of creating industrial use for local wood. Today, nearly 100 years after its founding, the company continues to promote well-being in the Inner Savo region through its operations.
The company’s production has developed significantly over the past decades. A continuous investment program, launched in the 1990s, has ensured that the company’s equipment has kept up with technological advancements and has maintained its competitiveness. Production has more than tripled compared to previous decades.
The core principle of the operations is to refine high-quality spruce from the Savo region for demanding applications. Customer relationships are close and long-lasting.
