HS Timber Group, one of Europe’s leading wood processing companies, has officially completed the acquisition of Malå Såg AB, effective 1 July 2026. Following the transaction, the Swedish sawmill will operate under the new name Malå Timber, marking a significant milestone in HS Timber Group’s strategy to expand its footprint across Northern Europe and strengthen its portfolio of high-quality timber products.
The acquisition reinforces HS Timber Group’s long-term commitment to sustainable growth while broadening its access to premium Nordic softwood resources. By integrating Malå Timber into its international network, the company aims to enhance its product offering, improve supply chain resilience, and strengthen customer service across key European and global markets.
Headquartered in Austria, HS Timber Group is an internationally active wood processing company with decades of experience in the production of sawn timber, solid wood products, glued laminated timber, and bio-based products. The company operates manufacturing facilities across Europe and serves customers in the construction, furniture, packaging, and industrial sectors. In recent years, HS Timber Group has continued to invest in modernization, digitalization, resource efficiency, and sustainable forestry practices, supporting the growing demand for renewable wood products in global markets.
The newly acquired Malå Timber, located in northern Sweden, brings extensive expertise in processing high-quality Nordic pine, a timber species widely recognized for its strength, durability, fine grain, and versatility. Sourced from Sweden’s sustainably managed forests, Nordic pine is used extensively in construction, joinery, interior applications, furniture manufacturing, and value-added wood products, making it an important addition to HS Timber Group’s existing product portfolio.
Beyond expanding production capabilities, the acquisition strengthens HS Timber Group’s access to one of Europe’s most important forest regions. Northern Sweden is renowned for its high-quality softwood resources and well-established forestry sector, offering favorable conditions for sustainable timber production. The addition of Malå Timber is expected to create new opportunities for operational collaboration, knowledge sharing, and product development across the Group’s international manufacturing network.
According to HS Timber Group, the immediate priority is to ensure a smooth integration process while maintaining business continuity for employees, customers, and supply chain partners. The company plans to build on Malå Timber’s existing expertise and local relationships while leveraging the broader capabilities and resources available within the Group.
Commenting on the acquisition, Juergen Bergner, CEO of HS Timber Group, said:
“As we welcome Malå Timber into HS Timber Group, we are strengthening not only our geographic footprint, but also the connections between people and expertise across our organisation.”
The statement reflects the company’s emphasis on combining regional expertise with international collaboration as it continues to grow its operations across Europe.
The integration will also focus on strengthening cooperation between teams, sharing technical expertise, and preserving the operational strengths that have established Malå Timber as a respected producer within Sweden’s timber industry. Employees at the Swedish site will become part of HS Timber Group’s international workforce, contributing to future innovation and operational excellence.
The acquisition comes at a time when demand for sustainably sourced wood products continues to rise, driven by increased use of timber in low-carbon construction, prefabricated building systems, and circular manufacturing. By expanding its presence in the Nordic region, HS Timber Group is well positioned to support customers seeking certified, responsibly sourced timber products while reinforcing its role in Europe’s evolving bioeconomy.
Welcoming its new Swedish colleagues, HS Timber Group expressed confidence in the opportunities ahead, emphasizing that the acquisition represents not only an expansion of its manufacturing network but also the beginning of a new chapter built on collaboration, innovation, and sustainable growth.
