HOMAG flourishes with its Cutting Edge Cabinetry

What began in 2011 as a solo endeavor by William Haveland in the world of cabinetry has evolved into Cutting Edge Cabinetry, a company renowned for its passion and precision craftsmanship. Nestled in Pukekohe, south of Auckland, the business has built a reputation for excellence, delivering high-quality products and a personal touch that sets it apart in the industry.

Initially operating as a one-man band, Cutting Edge Cabinetry has grown into a respected company with a dedicated team of seven. Committed to the highest standards of craftsmanship, the team prioritizes customer satisfaction and product durability. The company embraces continual learning, integrating the latest design elements, hardware, and innovations to ensure its clients receive superior results.

Founder William Haveland established Cutting Edge Cabinetry to serve local residents with custom kitchens while also completing commercial office fit-outs for professional firms such as law and accounting practices. Over the years, the company has diversified its portfolio, balancing residential and commercial projects with equal expertise.
A Journey of Growth and Innovation

As the business grew, Haveland expanded his team and relocated to larger premises around eight years ago. Today, the company focuses on two core areas: designing and installing kitchens for renovations and new constructions, often in collaboration with builders, and crafting custom commercial projects. These include feature walls, reception desks, and interior furnishings.

Haveland’s commitment to quality has driven strategic investments in advanced machinery. His experience with HOMAG machines in a previous role informed his decision to acquire a HOMAG edge bander for Cutting Edge Cabinetry. The first HOMAG machine, while large, delivered excellent results. As demand increased, Haveland transitioned to the HOMAG EDGETEQ S-200 model, equipped with airTec technology, to enhance efficiency and streamline production.

“Each year we try and invest in newer machinery to increase the quality and the efficiency of what we’re producing and develop the work that we’re doing,” Haveland explains.

The EDGETEQ S-200 proved to be a perfect fit, offering advanced features like pre-milling heads, which ensure clean edges before applying banding, and airTec technology, which processes materials with a single glue tank and laser technology. These capabilities have significantly reduced manual cleanup and increased throughput, despite the machine’s compact design.
Precision and Efficiency in Action

Transitioning to the EDGETEQ S-200 was seamless. The older machine was removed and the new one installed in just one day. The machine’s user-friendly interface and pneumatic adjustments minimized manual operations, allowing the team to begin production almost immediately. While initially hesitant about the smaller machine’s size, Haveland and his team quickly realized its compact design allowed tighter panel spacing and faster throughput, enhancing workshop efficiency.

The machine’s ability to switch edge tapes quickly, combined with its precision scrapers, has proven invaluable. The high demand for variable colors and finishes in kitchen projects required a solution that could adapt without frequent glue pot changes, a need the EDGETEQ S-200 met with ease. The showroom demonstrations of edge tape finishes underscore the team’s dedication to quality, ensuring clients understand the craftsmanship behind every product.
From Concept to Completion

Cutting Edge Cabinetry’s process begins with gathering photos of clients’ existing spaces. These visuals are transformed into detailed 3D designs using advanced software, enabling clients to preview their new kitchens. Color selections are finalized in the showroom before site measurements and CAD drafting commence. This software integrates seamlessly with CNC machinery to produce precise components.

Each piece is cut, labeled, and prepared with clear instructions, ensuring accuracy in assembly and installation. By managing fabrication and assembly in-house and conducting rigorous pre-installation testing, the company ensures seamless installations with minimal disruption to clients.
A Legacy of Excellence

Over the years, Cutting Edge Cabinetry has completed numerous impressive projects, pushing the limits of scale and technical capability. These challenges have fostered growth and reinforced the company’s commitment to excellence. Their continued focus on refining processes and adopting innovative solutions highlights their dedication to delivering exceptional results.

Cutting Edge Cabinetry stands as a testament to the power of passion, precision, and progress, setting the standard for craftsmanship and innovation in the cabinetry industry.
