
Approved in Orange, NSW, a 117-room hotel transforms a heritage site into a modern hospitality destination celebrating the region’s character.
Plus Architecture to develop boutique hotel in Orange, New South Wales. The proposed six-story hotel across from the train station includes 117 serviced apartments, a restaurant, a swimming pool, a rooftop garden, and recreational areas.
According to a communique from the practice, “The development will transform a heritage site at the southeastern gateway of Orange’s town centre into a contemporary hospitality destination that celebrates the region’s character.” Plus used retained fabric for a masonry interpretation merging the building’s facade and hotel’s dual street frontages.

Inspired by Orange’s industrial heritage and wine industry, the project’s materiality includes fine-grain detailing, earthy tones, tactile brickwork, and profiled bronze columns. The building’s mansard roof, which tries to blend in with the town’s skyline, is its crowning feature.
The block is sliced through on the ground plane by a new public laneway articulated with two-story arched brick entrances. Plus opines, “This thoroughfare enhances urban connectivity while providing an intimate setting for local events.”
“The design incorporates passive design elements, energy-efficient systems, and Building Management System optimization. Additional features include photovoltaic panels, LED lighting, water-sensitive design and native landscaping”, Plus notes.
The practice attempts congruence with Orange City Council’s Future City Project and masterplan objectives. Plus director Rido Pin’s words, “In regional centers like Orange, we see incredible opportunities to design spaces that support local aspirations while attracting visitors who want to experience authentic Australian destinations.”
He further added, “This project shows how thoughtful design can create spaces that bring people together. We envision the hotel as more than accommodation – it will be a destination where Orange’s lively culture, arts and culinary scene can flourish.”
