2023 is here. The year 2023 is all about growth and development, as much of the woodworking industry is continuing to recover post pandemic. From an ever evolving industry, we list the top five highlights of this new year.

LIGNA and interzum:

The trade fair duo in Germany must be on your business plans this year. “Following a four-year break, it is realistic to expect a firework of innovations at LIGNA 2023. LIGNA 2023 will be a must-have-can’t-miss event for all of us,” says Stephanie Wagner, looking forward to May 2023 with optimism. On the other hand, in keeping with its slogan, “Shaping the change. Go create conscious living spaces”, interzum invites participants and visitors to find new answers to current and future design questions.

Digitization and Automation:

Digitization along the value chain will be given more priority. Networking of machines, Building Information Modeling (BIM), robotics, human-machine interaction, more use of augmented and virtual reality, the concept of digital twin, IoT platforms, cloud-based data management, IT security will be the focus of the companies to make work more easier and error-free.

Flexible supply chain:

The pandemic has taught us to rely on risk management in the supply chain. Pre-pandemic, several businesses relied on specific countries for materials or finished products. However, emphasis is now on flexible supply networks that can absorb disruptions for prolonged periods of time.

Pre Fabrication:
The increase in the relevance of wood in construction – both for pure wood buildings and for mixed wood constructions – leads to new requirements for efficiency and prefabrication. The entire process, from planning to fabrication and manufacturing to logistics in the plant as well as to and on the construction site, can be experienced at LIGNA.23.

Sustainability and Circular economy:

The Ellen MacArthur Foundation defines the circular economy as: “based on the principles of designing out waste and pollution, keeping products and materials in use, and regenerating natural systems.” Wood befits the ‘reduce, reuse and recycle’ movement and thus it means for the companies to work together for a better future. In the words of Ikea’s head of circular design, Malin Nordin,”What we realised quite quickly is that IKEA being a circular company on its own is quite pointless. We are interdependent on other businesses.”
