“Digitization is the driver for future-oriented location development”

 Friday, July 23, 2021

The recent visit of Lord Mayor Frank Meyer at the Siempelkamp site in Inrath together with Eckart Preen, Head of the Department of Economic Affairs introduced the city delegation to the multi-faceted business fields of the international technology supplier. During a tour of the machine factory, the managing directors Stefan Ziemes and Ralf Meier showed the versatility of their machine park, which opens up extensive production capacities, e.g. in the areas of welding, turning and milling, and assembly. A visit to the Siempelkamp foundry was then on the agenda: Here the team demonstrated with its managing directors Dirk Howe and Dr. Georg Geier during a casting that the company slogan “We can cast” simply fits!

“As an employer who has been based in Krefeld for many years, it is important to us to conduct this dialogue with the city’s top management and to be able to discuss topics that move us together in direct conversation,” said Dr. Martin Stark, CEO of the Siempelkamp Group.

A common denominator of the meeting was the topic of “digitization”: Here the Siempelkamp managing directors illustrated the far-reaching dimensions in which digitization is being advanced in the group. On the one hand, Siempelkamp is continuously expanding the degree of automation of its products in order to be positioned with strong innovation in the competition – specifically e.g. in the area of virtual planning of systems and digital service offers, which are becoming increasingly important for international system operators when choosing their partners. On the other hand, Siempelkamp is increasingly investing in the digitization of its own processes. “The integration of such a versatile concept of digitization into the business world strengthens Siempelkamp’s attractiveness as an employer. As a consequence, the Krefeld location also benefits from this profile, which we greatly appreciate,” said Mayor Frank Meyer during his visit. With a total of 85 trainees, including 25 new trainees who will start their professional careers at Siempelkamp this year, Siempelkamp is a popular employer in the region that has also been recognised for its training.

On the other hand, the corona virus is also shaping people’s lives and work in Krefeld. On the occasion of the visit, Elisabeth Bienbeck-Ketelhohn, CFO of the Siempelkamp Group, gave insights into the corona security concept of Siempelkamp at the Krefeld location. Since mid-April, employees have been able to use rapid tests and / or self-tests in a test center on the company premises. 80 percent of those working at the site have taken advantage of this offer so far, the rate of negative tests is a gratifying 100 percent. The vaccination offer made together with the Krefeld factory doctor center also met with a very positive response from the Siempelkamp teams: around 150 employees use this option to protect themselves against corona infection. The exchange with those responsible in the city of Krefeld has always been an important source of inspiration for the orientation of the corona prevention measure.
